Don't let the warm tones of the sun fool you. It was not a warm day taking this photo. In fact, it was blisteringly cold with the wind and the temps dropped fast right after the sun went down. Thank goodness the car wasn't too far away.
Very nice, Scott. It really doesn't trick that the scene is warm anyway. Question is.. is the snowed area that blue?
I love that sun ray poking through the ice chunks. Really nice!
What a really cool shot. I like the way the snow/ice has piled up in it and it leads to the sun.
As we all know the snow reflects the sky and so for the snow to be blue like this is normal. Having to use a layer mask to remove the blue from the snow to turn it white while leaving the sky to still be blue takes away from the mood of this wonderful scene.
I lived in the cold country for years and can completely relate to this image! I've lived that scene too many times, and know that feeling when the temperatures plunge 50 degrees... Which is why I'm in the desert now!
Snow has a way of equalizing the terrain, I'm assuming there's sheets of ice under the dusting of snow, helps with illuminating the color.
Like Jim said, the lines really work and the color is awesome....
Scott,
I love it very much. Composition is very precise and streamlined, as usually in your shots.
I grew up in snow country myself, and after watching winter sunsets and sunrises for 30 years, can attest that colors/saturation in your picture are 100% true.
Looks darn cold to me Scott!!! Land of the midnight sun type image......As Jim stated I love the cast from the sky onto the snow....your exposure and composition look"right on" to me.
Great!
Dan
Regarding the blue snow colours. This is a pretty accurate representation of what I saw. Late day light and clear skies are best for these type of colours. I believe I toned down the blues in processing. Overcast skies you will not get the intense blue tones. Even late day light on the horizon with clouds overhead will not produce the blue tones. Clears skies are the key ingredient but almost any colour can happen if mother nature decides to deliver!
I agree with others, no part about this image looks warm to me! Must be something about the color of the sky in winter...even when the sun is brightly shining it still appears cold. You captured and processed the color well for this to show through. I love the ice being illuminated and the texture of the foreground snow as well. Nice work!
