p.1 #1 · Alien World.

Just got back from Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness in New Mexico.
These two were taken 40 minutes apart at sunset.
Thanks to Tung Tran in this forum for helpful hints and advice.

Great set Harsha! I like elements from both images. I prefer the lighting on the first and also that the rock on the far left is more prevalent without clouds around it. The second seems better balanced because of the high clouds. If I had to choose between them I would go with the second one.
Congrats!

Hey Harsha,

What cool shots! Bisti is still on my list for reasons like your shots here!

#1 is my favorite here, the side lighting is perfectly done there, it really sets that apart. Now #2 is cool too, the stars in it is really nice, but the lighting in #1 takes the cake for me.

Harsha,

Very, Very Nice! Like both of them. Show the difference that forty minutes can make in colors, tones, etc. Yet how similar they can still be and how beautiful both can be. So common in the Desert SW Twilight Shoots. Enjoy your photographs a lot.

Sweet images harsha, this location not too far from where I roamed a week earlier.

Wonderful set. Light, clouds and composition complement each other, first image is my favorite,

I prefer the first image - the colours are better and I like the less cluttered look of the sky. I would have preferred a fractionally lower viewpoint to separate the pedestal rock on the left from the background.

Both eqaully rock (no pun intended) for different reasons. IMO, there is no favorite, just 2 great pictures.

Very cool find Harsha. Very alien worldly!. I like #2 more because of the clouds, but like #1 for the light but both are great. Do you by chance have any from a slightly lower POV so that the top of that distant hill is not cut off by the bottom of the balancing rock?

**edit! I just saw that Dave has asked the same question a couple posts above.

Very nice Harsha. Both are great but the second one is more mysterious for me. Cooler WB and stars create fantastic atmosphere. Try to add some light to the right side of the second photo around the horizon and the sky ( something like in the first photo just not as strong). See how it works.

I like both shots very much. The badlands south from Farmington are really like a wonderland for photographers

Sometimes I find it difficult to explain why I prefer one version over another...in this case it is a visceral one that has me picking the second. But why do I need to choose? These are two images that would be hanging on my wall.

Gorgeous shots, what were the camera settings for each shot, and the exact time in relation to sunset? (2nd shot looks like it was 20-30 mins after sunset?)

I like #1 for its lighting. Seems like you had a successful trip. Brave to be there solo!
