Charlie Shugart was a long time member who has contributed over 28,000 posts. While I didnt know Charlie personally, I am saddened by his passing. He doesnt realize it, but his images have taught me a lot about the medium of photography. He has evidence that he lived a full life marked with adventure. It makes me realize that by freezing time in the present, I am preserving fleeting moments in my life.
One thing that is clear about Charlie Shugart's life is that he had a passion for travel. I propose that we honor Charlie on FM by posting any images of our own travels right here in this thread. It would be my hope that this becomes sort of a perpetual thread that features a passion for travel...like Charlie.
From a mini vacation to the Jersey Shore this past summer:
Oh no - this makes me so sad to hear. I always enjoyed Charlie's posts - I felt like I got to see a bit of the world that I will probably never see otherwise through his lens. Great idea for a tribute.
Thanks for pulling some of Charlie's posts back to the top and starting this one. He will be missed.
I don't travel much, but this is one of my favorites, mostly because of the memory associated with it. It was my first time in a smaller airplane and it was an absolute blast.
Here's a few of mine from my trip to Europe last year.
R.I.P. Charlie.
My brother about to get onto the Underground.

My family (wife and me on the left) in front of Buchanan Castle - where some of my ancestors never, ever ate dinner, because, as it turns out, they made terrible financial decisions and lost their castle to another clan, who vowed no Buchanan would ever set foot in THIS Buchanan castle.
Cuban cigars with my dad, brother, and my brother-in-law in downtown Edinburgh.

One of the oldest places of worship in Scotland - dated back over 900 years.
Oh, gosh, this is so sad to hear! Charlie was always willing to share his images - and the stories behind them... A class act - never said anything bad about anybody... RIP Charlie, you will be missed...

Great idea for a thread! I like that Charlie was always capturing people in there everyday life and we all got a sense of what life could be like no matter where he went. I've taking in the concept whenever I travel now and try to always take pictures of the people in everyday life. These are from all over. Thanks for all the great stories Charlie!

Very sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. I don't spend much time in the people forum but would usually check out his posts as they had an authenticity to them. RIP. This is my wife and our friend strolling through the fog on Hirtles Beach during our travels to Nova Scotia this past summer...

So sorry to learn of Charlie's passing. It was always a joy to read his posts, see his amazing collection of images and hear great words of encouragement.
I'll add some additional images soon, but this is one that stands out to me. Charlie and I traded some posts and more PM on this particular image. He was also such a great wealth of openly available knowledge and insighs for a trip I took to Alaska.
