p.1 #1 · Botany Bay Trees

This past weekend I finally got to shoot at Botany Bay...the one on Edisto Island in South Carolina...the light was less than perfect to say the least but I tried to work with it. That just means I need to go back...it was such a cool, surreal place. Thanks for looking, any comments or crits are welcomed with open ears....

Really liking the first image, Travis. Might look great with the tree centered in the image for a little balance.

Thanks Dave. #1 is easily one of my favorite images of the year that I have shot...given the crap conditions it was shot in make it more special to me.

Thanks for taking the time Klaus, I appreciate it. I looked at centering it while I was there, and even shot a similar scene with a tree centered...just didn't like it so much. I don't mind centering horizons, but I don't like to do that and combine a centered subject.

Travis, nice ones and that is another place I need to visit when I go down to see my brother. Been waiting for the mosquitoes to go away.

Hey Don, thanks. It is a really great place, check the website for it though, lots of closings this time of year...and the mosquitoes never go away...I am covered in bites and I used industrial strength bug spray...they are wicked down there, but it was worth it.

Thanks for the kind comments Gary. The extended exposure really simplified everything...the vision was to eliminate textures in the water and sky while keeping some of the highlights from the sun trying to peek out...

Hey Travis,

A very cool shot here in #1, the B&W and the white areas that make it look like it is being spot lit is really nice. The color version isn't working as well for me. Perhaps more contrast? Or maybe it just needs some color in the clouds?

HI Jim, thanks for commenting. Glad #1 works.

#2 is more subtle yes, and what color that is there was mined out of the image and more or less a product of post production, the original file and conditions were quite flat...I went for softer more subtle...knowing it would not work for everyone...it was not vibrant in person....can't win them all. Thanks for offering your crits, I appreciate it.

That is very kind of you to say that...always blown away when someone says that and in some cases actually does it!

I have one ordered already...12x24 for my office wall at work....since I am out of room at home!

Thanks Jim. I have been working to understand minimalism a little more when I can this year...its fun trying to whittle a scene down to a few essentials.

Travis, #1 is a masterpiece; I LOVE it, and I usually don't much like B&W pics.

EXCELLENT!

Thank you Jeffrey, when I can get color folks to like B&W that is a success! Thanks for taking the time.
