Morning! During a couple months in the summer, Great Blue herons flock to the immensely powerful rapids along the Potomac River within Great Falls National Park, Virginia. Showcasing these birds in this beautiful setting is one of my favorite photographic endeavors. There is limitless potential.
Patrick - these are all in the 1/4 second - .3 second type range, except for the one with the frozen water, obviously I find this is a good shutter speed for nice water that is blurred with some remaining texture. I've gone up to 2 seconds or so, and maybe experimented even longer, but that's about the max I usually go to. Obviously a solid tripod and good technique is very important here!
Very cool and impressive slower shutter work here Chris, and an excellent choice to showcase this powerful and majestic river in your images.
Each of your compositions is really well done... excellent work and a real pleasure to view.
These really are marvelous Chris. Very creative and excellent slow shutter work. You certainly achieved some impressive results. 3 for me is off the the charts good
