Finally, some challenging light. What are you using to reduce noise in PP, Herb? While the BG in #2 looks clean, the subject noise is still pretty apparent. Balancing subject NR and detail is very challenging, and I certainly have yet to come close to mastering that process.
Hey Jim, I use Neat Image for NR. I have camera noise profiles saved for every Iso captured on my 1d IV sensor, but the IQ really falls above 2000 iso. I tried more NR on the BGD as the details were too smoothed over when applying to the heron. I probably should have just tossed those shots. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.
1 and 4 are beautiful portraits Herb, and 6 is just a really cool flight pose... well done.
I have recently moved back to using Auto ISO for all light conditions other than direct sunlight. The reason is that the camera exposes the image correctly and eliminates a lot of under-exposure noise I was getting when trying to set ISO manually. Result has been more detail and much less noise on my subject.
