p.1 #1 · Mid-Summer Bakers's Dozen!

Been a long time my friends! As some of you remember, I've started on a year long quest to try to recover every photographic RAW file I've ever taken that was stolen when my truck was broken into. This adventure has been hit and miss, mostly miss, as far as the photographs of my landscapes are concerned, but the bird recovery effort has been decent. I was going to post a 500 picture post that Fred M. himself would shake his head at as he's clicking whatever he needs to make an example out of me LMAO. But instead I thought I'd post my best B grade photographs for this semi-mongo post, saving my A grade for more selective critiques and comments (mostly from Karl) at later dates! So without further blah blah....

1. A young Peregrine flew by me with a duckling this foggy day on a Northern California beach

2. This freshly fledged Western Screech Owl was injured and taken to a rehabilitation center by a good buddy of mine. He was kind enough to contact me first for a little staged photography!

3. A trip to Seattle to meet some PNW buddies along with my band of brothers from California (and one from Toronto) yielded good times, and cool photographs of Bald Eagles as they played keep-away with each other.

4. A trip back to Budapest yielded some neat behavior shots like this one of a European Kestrel with a snack!
http://www.conradtanphotography.com/Wildlife/Critters/Raptors/i-Wkb4nGG/0/X2/EU6Q3859-X2.jpg

5. Not every shot can be patiently earned. A good buddy pointed out a spot where huge numbers of Snowy Owls were hunting fields of grain fattened mice in Wisconsin. It did not disappoint!
http://www.conradtanphotography.com/Wildlife/Critters/Raptors/i-mW8R32V/0/X2/_U6Q0585-X2.jpg

6. A jaunt to shoot with another couple of GREAT Floridian photographers got me this rising Barred Owl shot.
http://www.conradtanphotography.com/Wildlife/Critters/Raptors/i-bRmchP4/0/X2/EU6Q9016-X2.jpg

7. What happens when you turn on a light in the middle of the night with some good buddies by a nest of Eastern Screech Owls? Bugs appear around the light, which attracts Anoles, which attracts the owls, who were more than happy to take advantage of many easy meals for their hungry young.
http://www.conradtanphotography.com/Wildlife/Critters/Raptors/i-DnSWfmL/0/X2/EU6Q6602-X2.jpg

8. A trip to the great frozen midwest to visit a friend I call the bird-whisperer got me quite a few shots of a pair of Northern Hawk Owls. This is a modest example!
http://www.conradtanphotography.com/Wildlife/Critters/Raptors/i-sfBNHgf/0/X2/_U6Q9063-X2.jpg

9. From my own backyard in San Jose, California, I was lucky to get this three-fer of a Golden Eagle being harassed by a pair of Red=tail Hawks!
http://www.conradtanphotography.com/Wildlife/Critters/Raptors/i-kBfTVLJ/0/X2/EU6Q7745b-X2.jpg

10. Another multi-species example of what you can get when you travel to places like Texas at one of the many private bird photography preserves. This Cara Cara couldn't be any less amused with this Mockingbird!
http://www.conradtanphotography.com/Wildlife/Critters/Raptors/i-HJrpz5k/0/X2/EU6Q7214-X2.jpg

11. One of my favorite moments while in the fields of Hortobagy Wildlife Preserve, Hungary occurred when a pair of European Rollers decided to mess with the nest of a pair of Red-footed Falcons. This was the female protecting her young.
http://www.conradtanphotography.com/Wildlife/Critters/Raptors/i-sHLqvkf/0/X2/DR9T4945-X2.jpg

12. This is what a male Red-footed Falcon looks like.
http://www.conradtanphotography.com/Wildlife/Critters/Raptors/i-ZQqTtWb/0/X2/DR9T4481-X2.jpg

13. Assuming the "Karate Kid" stance, this Great Grey Owl was the grand prize target of a return trip to the frozen tundra that my buddy calls home in Northern Minnesota.

That's all for now folks! The best part of all these travels, was not these photos. It was seeing and shooting with friends, some old, some new, and I am deeply grateful to each of them for accompanying, assisting, and just simply advising me in my year long quest. Soon I'll be heading to Africa with our own Ant W for some more file recovery adventures. Stay tuned!

Ya, by the looks of these you don't want me to critique quite yet

Conrad, you can't rush a good thing or event, don't be hellbent on recovery. Start fresh and enjoy and take your time my friend, let the goods come to you as you are a charmer to wildlife

it is #3 and #11 that capture my eyes here sir

Don't cram a lifetime of experience into any particular time frame, take what is given and somethings may never be repeated for you but new things will come forward for you to cherish and share..............I'm pretty dang sure of it buddy

Take care.......
Karl
