Had some fun yesterday at the Nevada City Adult Soap Box Derby. I've posted a few more (different) images in the AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Image Thread if you care to see more. All with D810 & 300mm PF.
I have to say that I'm impressed... I recently purchased a Mint condition Nikon 500mm f/8 mirror lens. This is my second copy of this lens (I have two now) and this newer one that looks like it has never been used, is extremely sharp. I picked it up used at Precision camera for $250. I'm so glad I was able to get it. A total blessing for sure. This newer lens is slightly sharper than my first used 500mm. The lens still has the oval gold passed sticker on it and it looks like new. Here is a photo of the moon I took this evening:
I just adjusted the contrast and surface details, this is a very sharp image and it is a crop from my D810. I plan on using it mostly for astrophotography on my AstroTrac. It will also serve well when shooting video.
I've been really impressed with the crop ability of this camera. I was on the USS Kearsarge for a deployment work up and caught a marlin jumping out of the water. It was a long ways away and didn't know what it was until I zoomed in. These are 100% crops. I'll also toss in a couple sunsets at the same time frame.
Great black and white car captures hmzimelka, looks loads of fun.
Equally powerful bike shot Ken, has a pan look without the pan.
Hi Tyr-Sog answered already, the 400mm f/2.8 did come off the body for this shot below taken with the 70-200mm a lens I have trouble with to be honest:-
