I'm on the fence about the downright forensic quality of the new sensor, but it's a relief to find that the false colors I kept seeing in forums were not in fact moir� but compression artifacts. The improved shutter is very nice!

Superb shot. And such proximity (even if cropped-?) for a very shy bird! Would love to see a shot of the entire bird as well... nothing quite like the shy woodies to challenge photogs (especially amateurs like myself) and show the full spectrum of true versus false colors, moire, etc. Thanks for posting.

Good guess! But the woodies are rather tame in this location, at least for the few weeks between their arrival and the start of the trout season.

D810 with Zeiss Distagon 35/2 ZF.2. Exp 30sec, f/5.6, ISO 1000, 135 images stacked.

Stitched pano with the Zeiss MP 100/2 ZF.
