We arrived there the first day they started charging for admittance. Are they still doing it? A lot of the guide companies were considering boycotts.
It is an on going issue in Iceland. On the one hand tourism has exploded so much that some sort of regulation is probably needed. On the other hand, all the landscape treasures of Iceland have always been free and I have always found that so wonderful. Officially the owners of Geysir are not allowed to charge anymore, but a number of other places have now jumped on the bandwagon. If charges do become a permanent issue, the I would be most willing to accept a sort of government controlled national pass.
Now is that really a bubble? It looks that way. Is it frozen into that form, or is it just an optical illusion?
Jim
It is really a bubble Jim. This is an action shot of the split second that the geyser starts erupting. On most eruptions of Strokkur there is a blue bubble caused by the water in the basin that lifts up just as the water jet starts exploding. Within the bubble you can see the start of the blast.
