Early sunrise illuminated dunes in the Imperial Recreating Area, Southeast California.
There's so many dunes there, more than 10 times the Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley. In the morning before the sunrise they are quite pale and become more yellowish when sun illuminates them...
I really love the delicate colors in #1, although I am not as keen on the crop.
I love #2, and the way the lines lead me into the scene. #3 I think is a great idea, but not quite fully realized.
Love the delicate colors of #1 but the comp could use some place for the eye to either exit or stop wandering. The backlit tree in #4 is awesome, but seems to yearn for a longer tele shot to compress the perspective and emphasize the tree. Thanks for sharing, these are less than 3 hrs from where I live and I will have to pay them a visit once later in the year when the weather cools off. Will probably go there during a high wind waring that seems to be so prevalent in the Imperial Valley and catch some blowing sand too.
P.S. How annoying are the dune buggies? Is the place really swamped with them, or do people prefer to deface Anza Borego instead?

Well maybe I could crop #1 a little bit. I just liked these beautiful sun illuminated lines and didn't want to cut too much of them. The forth shot is the way it suppose to
Small trees against black part of the dune. It is exactly how I wanted to be, no zooming is necessary because I'd loose the sand and it's amazing patter and this image after all is about the sand. The bugs weren't there I'm not sure what buggies you talking about? I was there at 3am and the only thing I saw were coyotes fighting or hunting because they made a lot of noise but that's about it.
I'll be there for the sunset this Friday again.
Also there wasn't a soul in the place so no tracks. I too wished for some wind and there was one but two weeks ago, maybe I'll catch something this weekend.
Thanks

Your images, your rules

Dune buggies, aka ATVs. Some of the images on Google Earth are quite disheartening but the madness appears to be concentrated south of CA-78, at least if the GPS tags on the photos are correct

Oh I see....
Nope, not a soul. The place is completely empty now because it's too hot in a midday. I wasn't there in a midday though so I can't tell for certain but I'd imagine that those guys would show up in the morning and I didn't see anyone. It was nice driving around there because of that. It was just me. Also the wind pushed so much sand onto the paved road that leads to camp places I almost got stuck there the momentum saved my butt, really. But I have a low suspension car so....
Like them all, I feel #2 is the strongest one.
#3 foreground deserve some clone out the imperfection of sand.
#1, I really like the simplicity, but don't know why having the feeling want to see more.....might just need a frame
