The darker parts up top look like ink spreading out...when I clean my fountain pen in a glass of water I get a similar look as the ink spreads but not quite sure what the brighter "blobs" are. It does look like some paintings I've seen and as such pretty neat stuff!

My guess is an old container of Dippity-Do left out in the sun, after someone jabbed a dirty stick into it.
Thank you Klaus and James. I wish I could do an asto-photograph that impressive. (But I may re-visit some of my old nebula shots and try to process them like this shot)
It is not Dippity-Doo but it is in the sun and no dirty stick. (At least I hope not, because I will be drinking what the pillars are creating.)
Very nice , love the movement and flow. I am really stumped by what it is. At first I thought it was some of that liquid that you squirt into water for flavor. However, the structure / texture of the columns, I have no idea.
Can't wait to you reveal what it is !
Thank you everyone for the nice comments and for playing along with the guessing game.
The photo is of a scoby. (Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast) We had been growing one in a jar and I thought the columns of growth looked cool. So I took it outside and lined it up so the sun was directly behind the jar. The sooc was very amber in color so I experimented with white balance and came up with the photo above. I thought it did look a lot like M16 so I titled it 'Pillars of Creation'. It seemed to fit as we were creating something from just tea and sugar.
BTW; We had our first drinks from the batch we were creating. It was good!
Some great guesses. Some great abstract images this month. Best of luck to everyone.
