First, a little info on the Santa Clara Ranch where these shots were taken. The ranch is owned by a photographer, and managed by a pro wildlife shooter, so they have it set up well for photography. Wildlife is fed and watered year round, so it's similar to setting up back yard feeders.Visitors go to where the animals are already going.
This set is in no particular order, and I will probably have one more set after this. I'm still trying to figure out how to move, not share, files from my laptop to my pc. And as aalways. C&C appreciated ~ Ron
7- An Armadillo came by for a drink - too close for a full body shot, but I like the pattern this shot brings out. It's like some ancient indian pottery.
Nice! Lovely stuff Ron. Can't remember a cowbird looking so good, and the RR portrait, down on the deck with the squirrel and the dillo. Brilliant work. Great to see telephoto macro as well. Thanks
Crazy good IQ on these Ron, something about that environment down there puts such a wonderful illumination on the birds. Nice work on the spider with the long glass Your Bunting is fantastic and best Cowbird I've seen in a loooong while Superstar head shot of the RR Ron and detail for miles
Great memories of your trip I'm sure and hope you have more to share
Excellent shots. I grew up in that part of Texas and was once a ranch member at Santa Clara. I couldn't take advantage of it like I wanted too because I was working on my PhD and trying to be a husband/father at the same time but I managed to get out some. I have a write up of the ranch on my blog. Dr Beto runs a first rate ranch. http://kevinjhurtphotography.wordpress.com/?s=Santa+Clara&submit=Search
I also have a write up of Estero Llano Grande SP. I often shot there as well. If you search Estero on my blog you'll see numerous pics from that location. Hope that helps anyone considering a trip to South Tx. There's nothing like the private ranch experience but Estero Llano and South Padre Island World Birding Center are great locations to consider.

Ron,
The Peanut Gallery thinks these pictures are swell.
So swell that it's almost impossible to pick the roadrunner portrait as my favorite.
It's not superior to all the other superior images, but I've watched road runners in the desert, and they always tickle me fancy (tee hee).
