No need in considering a switch to the dark side Tim, you will not get any better pictures than what you just posted.
As the famous philosopher Master Yoda would say: buy Sony you will not, keep Nikon you will

Loving the latest images in this thread. I recently picked up a used model of the 500mm F4 AF-S II and I've been running into some issues with teleconverters (the 1.7 and 1.4 II) when paired with my D500.
After some research, I've concluded that I might need to send this lens in to Nikon (or somewhere else) to get the DC/DC converter in the lens modified.
Does anyone in this group have any experience with this? Looking for a rough estimate on pricing, and where the lens was sent to.
I am so very glad I opted for a pre-owned 500/4 with AF, rather than the 500/5.6 PF. My manual-focus 500/4P, AF-S 300/4D with 1.7x II and 2x III Tele-Converters, and, of course, my old faithful Canon EF 400/5.6L, on various Canon cameras, had already “told” me that I would be desiring f/4, especially when adding a TC, and they were found to be correct.
The depressed prices for pre-owned SLR lenses, even the best ones, such as the 500/4E, have made this a good time for being able to afford more lens than I would have thought possible, in early 2018, when I started shifting to Nikon for bird photography. I was able to purchase a pre-loved 500/4E, for not much more than the price of a new Sigma 500/4 Sport, earlier this month.
I know that one cannot buy skill, but a well-balanced 500/4, with accurate AF, and a weight similar to that of a 300/2.8G VR II, has moved my realistic capabilities forward, by a considerable leap. I may develop the courage to start posting images, here, sooner than I had thought possible.

Prices for the various 500 f4's on the used market right now are ridiculous bargains. Even my old AF-I does really well with the 1.4 TC and a 700 5.6 is really sweet. Sure, they're big and heavy but as long as I never allow myself to ever actually handle a 500 PF what I don't know won't hurt me
Hi, I'm watching 500mm telephoto lenses on ebay and the truth is that the old 500mm AFS (the first version) has a very good price. I usually photograph birds and mammals from the hide, so the VR is not so important to me, and with the Nikon Z6 I have a stabilizer.
I have the Sigma 150-600mm sport and it is very sharp but the focus is not very fast and the luminosity is not very good.
Anyone have this lens? Could you tell me if it's worth it?
Thank you

I can't answer your question directly because I shoot with the old AF-I version and also the Sigma S. Here's what I will say. I agree that the Sigma is an excellent lens if you're willing to accept it's limitations. Some of which you've mentioned. I always prefer to use my old Nikon except when I feel the need for the flexibility of the zoom. F4 is huge compared to 6.3 as I'm sure you realize and I just prefer the looks of the images from the Nikon.
After much searching I recently purchased a 600 f4 AFS-ll off a reputable seller on Ebay. Pristine lens for what I thought was a more than fair price. That is until the AF started acting wonky after about 15 minutes of testing and then refused to work. The seller agreed to refund me the price of the repair and since the lens was in such beautiful condition I considered this option. I called Midwest Camera to get an idea of a repair cost and they told me AFS motors were no longer available for this lens and it would need to be REPAIRED not REPLACED. The chances of repairing it were 50/50 so I decided to pass. Thankfully the seller agreed to 100% refund. I'm just saying make sure you buy from someone who will stand behind the sale.
