Oh my... No suggestion at all, Birdie. These are top notch shots of hummingbirds. Their colors are gorgeous. Love the composition, background too. 3 excellent shots and I cannot pick one over the others. :-)
I shot a sequence of Ruby's while doing a film about moose in Eastern Canada. We discovered the birds there timed their return not with the arrival of flowers but to the rising of sap. They visited Sapsucker wells using them as feeders arriving weeks before any flowers were in bloom. How clever as late winter storms might easily damage the fragile floral nectar source but the sap rising in trees would carry on. Sap has the same or in some cases more sugar than nectar allowing them to recharge after their epic journey. It made me think of Maple syrup! I was wondering if that might be the case in your population. I now see you're pretty far south so behaviour could be quite different. Might be fun to poke about and see, if so staking out a well may be relatively easy and could yield uncommon photos. Just a thought.
Lovely creatures and beautiful pictures thank you again.

I shot a whole lot of the hummingbirds in Arizona and not one can compare to your first one in this set. That is as close to perfect as I can imagine. Great shots.
