p.1 #1 · Moonlight over Hot Creek

Congratulations to Fred Miranda for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 7 votes - View Previous Winners

As the moon shined bright on my frigid night hike, I captured the scalding creek steam, soaring towards the sky.
Taken with a Sony A7R and Sonnar FE 55 f/1.8.

This combo is great for night photography.
Hope you like it. Comments and feedback appreciated.
Fred

wow Fred this is great. How on earth did you get the land and moon exposed in the same shot? I usually get one or the other.

You basically nailed this, Fred. I can't find anything I don't like in this image. The steam, the mountain, the stars and the moon are all brought together beautifully.

I would never guess it was a night exposure. A beauty.

Hey Fred,

Man, that is sweet looking! One of the few times that a night exposure that looks like a day shot actually looks cool. Almost a mystical aspect to it. I am thinking the mist from the river really helps blend the two worlds here.

I am also wondering where this is at? Someplace south of the equator? Where ever it is, it's a sweet composition.

That is so cool. I would not have even imagined, when looking at the scene, that it would come out this way when photographed. Great vision and creativeness.

I think I would like the image to be a little darker but the composition and elements are wonderful. Pretty darn cool!

Stellar image Fred, simply stellar

If this is on the opposite side of Cold Creek ,you're a courageous man to hike around those rocks with camera gear at night.

If its any darker, you will lose the detail….why would you like it darker?

Because that's the kind of guy I am.

The image is wonderful this way too, but I like it darker to better convey the nighttime feel, and perhaps to heighten the sense of mystery. I don't necessarily need to see all the details in a nighttime scene.

Thanks Sunny. The background shows the Eastern Sierra mountains. This (hot) creek is located in the Inyo National Forest, Mammoth Lakes, CA.
