It may only be February, but spring is officially here for those of us in Arizona. It's been in the 70's and the light is warm and golden! We had our first baby chicks hatch this week also. The kids, of course, are in love. I took the opportunity with the warm weather to snap a few shots of my 4 year old daughter with one of the new chicks and really like how they came out. Big sister curled her hair for her pics and you should have seen her little face light up when she saw her hair all fluffy and bouncy - it was priceless! I think that translated well in her expressions in these images. These are edited a bit differently than my norm, but I think it's fitting for these images. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Absolutely stunning. You captured the tenderness of the moment perfectly, and as usual with your eye for color. What a lovely little girl, she is adorable. With an image such as this, do you ever use reflectors?

Thank you! Ed, it's funny that you mentioned my reflector. I had noticed it was missing and couldn't remember for the life of me where I might have left it. I rarely use it, but always bring it along - just in case. Needless to say, I had taken some photos of one of my other little girls with one of our hens in a vacant lot near our house back in January. The light was beautiful there in the last minutes before sunset, so that's where I went last night also. Guess what I found laying in the weeds, untouched since January? You guessed it - my long lost reflector. That said, I did not use it. lol

Beautiful shots, Lisa. You can really sense the child's innocent emotion in that first shot especially for me.
I just took a dusk shot myself, but I backlit so it actually looks dark/nighttime. Still, my shot here in the Chicago area is a stark contrast to yours in Arizona... Weird, as we were both shooting around sunset, yet the shots are so different.

Two very nice shots. I favour the first one. The second one doesn't show the chick as well.
The beautiful background in both shots is amazing. Tell Ron he's got to re-locate.
Jim, it's not me who needs to be talked into relocating. I'm from Lisa's neck of the woods. It's my freakin' wife who's from Chicago... Every winter, I'm reminded of how much I love her to stay in this god-forsaken place!

Lisa, I love your shots as always. Just beautiful.
Of these two it's the first one that catches me. I think it's the positioning of her hands, the chick to the cheek, and a better view of both faces that contribute to a greater feeling of connection between them. For me, that clearer connection is primarily why the first one grabs me. Also, it seems there's the tiniest smidge more contrast to the first one. It's still wonderfully diffuse lighting, but I think that's (a small part of) why it catches me.
Again - both lovely. Just trying to articulate my response to them.
