p.1 #5 · Rolling review: Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* FE 4/24-70 ZA
There was a link to another review on SAR. This lens looks like a subpar 24-70 .
Phillip, if you see less than sharp images with this lens during your testing, can you reshoot with the Oss turned off? I wonder if that is playing a role in the less than stellar IQ I've seen in other reviews.

I'm starting to think that I will just continue to use my primes (Touit 12mm, FE 35, FE55 and Olympus OM's) when I need maximum IQ and my FE 28-70 and E 55-210 when I need the convenience of a zoom lens.
Spending an extra $1000 for the 24-28mm range on the 24-70mm over the 28-70 which I got brand new for $350 is starting to seem like a bad idea. Too bad, as the Sony/Zeiss 24-70 that I used to own with the A850 was a very nice lens...

Phillip,
Excellent review so far. I like very much how you have kept an open mind and fairly evaluated things as you went along. I am looking forward to the updates.

This is quite disappointing--I used the 24-70 a mount CZ and it was wonderful. I had hoped with several years of lens tech. and the wonderful 55 1.8 for better. Now I really wonder how good the wide zoom will be...

I owned the ZA 24-70 for a couple of years, and I'm not sure if I'd say the corners were any better at 24 and 70. That was a weak point in the lens. I think we're just a little more picky, these days.

We are pickier these days
I will say though, I thought because it was a stop slower and tech advances it would have been better. Oh well. the 24-70 it cracking contrast and sharpness at 2.8 throughout the range. At f4 it was goofy…I guess maybe it's not fair to expect a mini me…ha
