Way to go here! What an exceptional shot you have made here. The blending looks seamless between the arch and the sky. Did you use some light painting to get the arch lit up?
Jim
Thanks Jim. I used two light sources. The led light for direct lighting. I only used this direct light for fraction of a second. The other was the Cree X- tactical flash light that Fred recommended sometime ago. Instead of directly illuminating the arch I shined the light on the rocks behind to get that diffuse light.

Beautiful, Harsha. Besides the well done combo of the milky way and rock and the colors/textures, the Botero-like effect to emphasize the bulging roundness of the arch formation really sets off this image.

Thank you very much John. Glad you like it.

Awesome shot! However the sky & Milky Way have too much blue in them. The Milky Way is more brown than that, either way it is an awesome shot. When I shoot the Milky Way with my D800E, I usually set my white balance to the Kelvin scale at 3850~4000k to get rid of any blue in the sky. Of course if the moon was up during this shot, the sky will be bluer than normal. I'm just offering my feedback, hopefully you won't mind. This is how my Milky Way turns out. http://www.toddhargisphotography.com/Nature/Astrophotography/9687544_vbVb5L#!i=2655772395&k=JFc32Xp
Anyway, great angle and capture of a beautiful landscape...

I also admire the image and would like to know more about how you created it.
As others have noted I like the very diffuse lighting on the arch rock is appealing. Is that a very long exposure of a darker night? Then it would make sense that the sky is a different exposure as the Milky Way is normally in the South, but here the view is directly West.

Thanks Mike. This was the result of two exposures. One for the sky and the other for the arch. I use a tracker for the sky at 145 sec/ F2.8, 14mm and used the same settings for the FG without tracking. Each frame was taken one after the other at about 1AM in July. I hope this helps.
