You got your early.
Would be nice if Tamron would post about the problem.
Would also be nice if they would say if there is a fix.

You bought early.
What camera do you use? Have you tried AIServo?

I doubt that the serial number has any relevance. And the comments of impressed or unimpressed are meaningless when the person does not say what body they used and if they properly tested the lens in AI Servo.

Mine was just after your's I guess #000164 on my 7D and I'm impressed with everything but I do have to pump AiServo. I'm keeping it though. I'll see if they come up with a fix but I can work around with the pumping for the lenses other good atributes until Tamron does something about it. Meanwhile I'll just not buy another Tamrom until they do address it's one fault IMHO.

This is true.

For me-

With 7D- have to focus bump in AI Servo when changing targets.
With 6D- no issues in AI Servo.

For me, the focus bumping isn't a big deal as I don't shoot BIF and rarely am changing subjects without first taking my finger off the shutter anyways. So for me, the benefits of the lens overshadow the shortcomings since I naturally work around them anyways. YMMV.

Some 7D users have suggested it makes more sense to sell the 7D, and pick up a 70D to use with the Tamron, which doesn't seem to have issues, as opposed to return the Tamron and pick up another lens which would give similar performance (100-400L, Sigma 120-300 2.8). To each their own.

The more information users can give the better.
It would be very helpful if Tamron replied and addressed the problem.
One forum user was sending his lens and camera in. Would be nice to know what happened.
As far as the SN not being important. I think at some point we will Know that SNs over a certain number are good.

I want the 150-600 [ on 2 lists ] but I am not selling my 7 D .
I have gotten along without the 150-600 so far and if if sucks for me I will just return it .
If stolen , breaks or goes for a swim , I will replace it with another 7 D .

So if you hit the AF again for a new subject it works just fine? No other issues with tracking on the 7D? Hitting AF again for a new subject is how I shoot anyway, so I will probably be happy to be honest. What puts me off more at the moment is how Tamron are handling the issue.

About the only time I use AI servo is at a wedding - mainly when flowers and garter are tossed .

I am keeping my 7 D [ I may give away camera stuff , but never sell - last time was 3 years ago in Mexico and wife gave away my tripod . Very hard to find in little towns . ] I may replace when the 8D comes out - but right now the 7D is fine .

So I hit the AF for a new subject burst a few and then next shot or subject - time wise - maybe 5 % of time I use a tripod , monopod [ most ] or the gimbal

If all you have to do is bump the focus to get it to reacquire a new target or a lost target then that is also how I shoot even with the 1DX and Canon's best big whites....however, there were lots of users that reported 7D and 1D4 issues that went beyond that where the lens wouldn't even attempt to focus with bumping?? I guess the only way to get a straight answer with this lens is to purchase one and evaluate it yourself with your own gear and technique.

From what I read , other than AI servo , the focus problems were the camera was set up wrong .
I kind of blew it . Just last week , I did the Dec 2013 update . Forgot it erased the settings .
This caused me to redo all the settings and noticed a lot of factory settings I changed that
I don't think I did before .
Before that I went thru and wrote down my settings from 1. xx for 2 . xx but can not find it .
No telling where I put it or what I named it .
I agree with you each person has to try themselves unless they can afford the big whites .
A long lens is not a P & S - you need to know how to use and probably your 1st 100 will have
a poor keeper rate . Kind of like the MP-E 65 - it sucks until you learn it . You need to learn it's good and bad points .

Kiwijoslin, you should ask him to speak to Tamron Europe, because I've been asked to send my lens in for a fix for the 'compatibility issues with the 7d & other bodies.' This came from the UK service centre yesterday, who told me that they'd been waiting until now for Japan to respond.I think I'll send mine in on Monday, the manager seemed to think it would be a fairly quick turnaround, so I'm hoping this will be good news for us all...

Surfinrobin - Has anything happened about your lens? Please let us know if you had any success.
