Here is the often photographed Zabriskie Point in Death Valley (east side of it). I was getting some advices from other photographers familiar with this place that the best time to shot it is after the sunset, or when the sun is behind the surrounding mountains - so no direct sun light is illuminating them. This is in fact the best time, short so one has to be fast, but nonetheless the best. And, now, in the Winter time, the skies are great too....

I like the color you got in the foreground but I can't find Zabriskie Point. Is that the highway on the left?
This is the place. I just took the shot of its east side. To the right would be the structure you're thinking off I guess.

Gregg,
First- this is an incredibly beautiful interpretation, and the light is exceptional.
Second- I presume that's the highway leading east to Death Valley Jct and Pahrump. I've never incorporated it into a photograph but it works really well here.

Thank you for the First.
Second - this is 190 highway. If you drove it it'll take you to 127. I'm looking at the map now and it looks like this is more Southeast side, not just east.

Thank You all. Please go to the Macro section and let me know what you all think about the mushroom shot I posted there? I kind of played with a light paining technique for the first time...
It is actually a gully to the south of the overlook of Zabriskie Point and across Gower Gulch. (I have a long term project to photograph it in various lighting conditions.)
