If it is a planet, it's probably Venus. Venus is the 3rd brightest object in the night sky. The issue is, Venus should 'set' at the same location as the sunset, but it looks a bit off.
It's hard to say without knowing where the sun actually set, etc.
But Venus, being 1 spot nearer to the sun, is usually seen around sunrise or sunset, so at least in terms of timing, it works out.
Thanks! the sun set close to the rock area I believe.
Beautiful shot! Would love to see more. That bright spot is Venus for sure, given the time of day and location. It is the only really bright thing in the western evening sky at the moment.

What a lovely capture, I should be less lazy too and "man' up as well. I was under the impression that you would need to expose for at least a couple of minutes (but perhaps ISO 3200 explain that). Very nice and motivating for the rest of us.

Someone has probably already said it, but if you go over 30 seconds the stars will start to trail due to the earth spinning.. so for shots like this 30 seconds is the maximum you want to go.
An incredibly good image, Jason.
Hats off, thumbs up, and all that jazz .
Have you considered cropping some off the bottom? To further emphasize the rock and Milky Way.
Just a thought.

thanks Charlie. I had thought about getting a tighter crop. I'll look into some variations.
