I use a Macbook pro, with 8gb of Ram.....also purchasing a 21" IMac with 8gb of ram as well...what are you using for processing and do you find it bogs down your machine when trying to process such large raw files?

A computer like that will work fine. One thing you can do that will dramatically speed up your workflow is to buy a smaller size external SSD (Solid State Drive) and use that for the set of images you are actively working on. The SSD is not needed for your main archive so it only needs to be large enough to handle the last few weeks of work.

On a Mac you can use Aperture and move project between the SSD and hard drive based libraries.

Don't worry much about the cost of storage. Even 4TB disks are now under $200. Some math: Assume the RAW file is 50MB and a 4TB disk costs $200. It works out to 1/4 penny per image.

Please notice that when you do some processing and end with Tif-files, these can easily be 250 MB each.

I shoot 14 bit uncompressed raw with my camera (800 & 800E) and my files are 75 MB each!
