This is an engrossing thread, I've spent almost an hour reading it. Way better than any crappy TV show or movie.
Anyway, having sold all my RF glass when I got the Speed Booster ( yes, I know, I know,.. ) the feature of the A7/A7r that I'm most interested to know about (and nobody talks on it ) is the peaking implementation.
It's the classic NEX style -with peaking active on normal screen and magnified view ? or it's the absurd RX1 system -peaking linked exclusively to magnified view ?.
This is quite a deal breaker for me. Anybody has positive information ?'
None of the early reviewers says a word about this question. I've asked politely Brian Smith ( in his thread on the NEX forum at dpreview) but neither him, nor anybody else has answered.
Agree with douglas's comments re RX1 AF and resolution and it was interesting to see Brian Smith's reply when asked what he thought of the a7r and its native primes against the RX1r - 'a tough decision' due to the extra sharpness of the new camera.
Huff presented a pretty good if short 35/2 M Summicron Asph / RX1 comparo, he preferred the Leica output aesthetically. Both were great, but we might be waiting a while for a stronger 35mm than the Sonnar. It takes so much leaning on in post it is ridiculous. Even then it has other fine attributes, focus fade and light/shadow handling, macro, aperture flexibility. I prefer its bottomless micro-contrast and bokeh to the somewhat flat look and scarifying bokeh of the Asph M also:
It would be a great comparision to see RX1r - A7r + Summicron 35/2 Asph - A7r + 35/2.8 and I am sure someone will do it soon. Will the new sensor overcome the RX1r lens, is the question, I feel. Throw in the A7 too.
Seeing the 55/1.8 FE, Sony might have a leaf shutter 55mm RX1 in the development pipeline.

From the first-hands youtube video posted by 'The Camera Store', they showed A7 peaking while recording in video mode, which the RX1 did not have since video is a non-magnified view. I think that likely means the A7(r) has peaking when not recording video either, ie means it's available for the non-magnified view at all times.

From your mouth to God's ears I doubt it now that the A7(r) is available since the RX1 was likely a proof-of-concept and proof-of-market in lieu of the A7(r).

Agreed. The wider the lens, the more advantageous the fixed lens concept is, and I'd think that Sony expects that anyone using the RX1 would just go with the A7, should they need more lens options.
Artur, personal view only, but I suspect it will be like the a99 implementation - separate peaking and focus mag...the RX1 is a body-lens package so they went one way - the wrong way to many users.
I base this hunch on their adoption of Alpha menuing and they have so many custom options (the SAR dude said 42, the meaning of life) hopefully this is one of them.
In the a99 peaking all but disappears upon focus mag, which really works well as it no longer gets in the way, yet is there in normal view. It (peaking) is a touchy thing and varies greatly with lenses, don't try it with a sharp wide angle.

I assume the same thing. It wouldn't make sense to restrict peaking to magnified view only.

I realize I am in the minority here, but I prefer to get my shot "right" out of the camera, not spend time editing out ugly color casts.
I will most likely just use "big old SLR lenses" instead of tiny RF lenses for my wide angle purposes.... Still, here's to hoping that Voigtlander 35/1.4 will work beautifully on it
May I ask, why not just get a Fuji X, and call it a day?

Gary,
I think that we are going to have to wait until many sign in on the different WA lenses. From the initial input coming in from the those testing the camera with the WA lenses by both Leica and Zeiss some "appear" to be OK and some are not. I suspect that this may have something to do with the designs, but don't quote me on that at least yet.

i think douglas is much more sensitive to the issue than many of us. i bet if you focus to infinity and put a kleenex over the lens and take a shot you'll probably see a little color. being able to see it in real shots without looking for it is a different thing entirely.
