Huff now says the 50 lux ASPH is beautiful on both the A7 and A7R and works as well as on any M body. This starts to smell like hyping again.
Ron's examples showed that it's not great on the A7, the example of The Camera Store looked really weird and Phillip Reeve mentioned that he wouldn't even show his result from the 50 lux because it was so bad.
I bet this is more to do with Huff's normal choice of subject matter - closer in, wider open, on balance - than hype. He's just not very good at qualifying praise.
He's never been into shooting distant vistas and might not even know what an infinity stop is, on lenses that still have one.

Does anybody know what focus magnification settings the new cameras have ? I remember I was disappointed b y the fact that the second generation NEX cams had lower magnification than the first generation.

isn't it always 50% magnification in the evf and 100% magnification in the evf isn't it. i thought the reason the magnification went down was because of the higher resolution evf (versus the lcd for the 3 and 5) for the 5N, 6, & 7.
in any event, i liked the lower magnification. 4x would be just fine for perfect focus for me and easier to track a moving target with too. hitting the button a second time isn't much work and it always gives 100% view.

a99 has two steps of focus magnification: one press activates the function (dunno why they need this step for a custom function), next press is 5.7x and second press is 11.7x - as in your 100mm lens turns into a 1170mm...steady hands territory. Hands down the best focus aid I ever saw, if you can spare 1-2 seconds, as I can. a7r is likely to work the same way.
RX1 is similar but activates on MF, here is a demo to give you some idea of the magnification level, now imagine that for a person at 10 metres distance - you don't miss... :

Among all the almost indignant edginess that accompanies anything genuinely new, people turn it around in their minds and try to make sense of it from known reference points.
All fine except there are none that work for anything genuinely new. For some this means a distracted yet forensic attention to the minutiae - 'annoying UI', 'unattractive hump', 'not totally waterproof' and the like. Some fall back on near banalities, some talk price...I liked this one for a fresh perspective:
'The A7 is not costing much more than a Leica M240 EVF and handgrip, superior sensor and EFV included.'

'Nice camera. Too bad it's made by an electronics company.'

So, just for my information: the A7 and A7R have auto ISO available in M mode, right? If there's one thing I hate about my Nex 5n and love about the D700 it's auto ISO in M Mode that you can limit (I put it at 3200 on the D700).

If this is not possible on the A7 / A7R, no sale.
The RX1 does and since the A7's are set up more like an RX1 and unlike prior NEX's, I'm sure auto ISO in M mode is there.

I just had an on-line discussion with Spencer from Really Right Stuff (RRS) just about 10 minutes ago regarding an L bracket for the A7 and A7r cameras and he indicated:
"At this time we do not have a date when we will open the pre-order. At this moment we are still trying to get the camera in-house so we can start the design process. It will take roughly 4-6 weeks to design a plate and then we put it into production. When we start the production phase is generally when we open our pre-order."
So, at this point it appears that we will not be able to place orders for the RRS L bracket for these cameras probably till the end of December to the middle or so of January, 2014
For the 36MP A7r in particular and also for the 24MP A7 cameras I believe that these L brackets will prove to be invaluable when using the cameras on a tripod (with an Arca Swiss type QR clamp) particularly to get the most out of these sensors.
I know this is going to a long month and half or so for many of us waiting on the camera, accessories, and finding out what WA RF lenses that we will be able to use with these cameras.

I'm so excited for this thing... it's gonna be so fun to shoot with! My NEX-6 never leaves my side and now throw somewhat similar sizing and full frame into the mix? Madness!

Sony usually publish user manuals a few weeks before release from memory - this one will be interesting reading, they are pretty dry and just lay out the options, but they do give full details of things like Auto ISO and what can be done with what button. Part of what they meant with 'menus are Alpha not NEX' is the models are a99/RX1, most likely.
A fair hands on review at DPR, thanks. Sony are very keen to keep the main options separate from menu diving, always have been. This sounds ominous:
'I tested the adapter/lens and they were clearly impressed that one could fully use Canon (100/2.8L IS) glass. The Sony dude joked that maybe I want to stay on their stand for the day with the adapter and lens'.
Good to see Phillip's work recognised over at the rumours site.

'The c1, c2, c3 buttons bring up mini popup menus that one can choose peaking level, peaking color, focus point size for AF, toggle stabilization on/off etc. A lot of stuff on assignable to those buttons'
I have read 42 settings...is this the most customisable camera?
