I have Wasabi's for 3 or 4 cameras. While good, I am fairly sure that while they last nearly as long as OEM batteries when new, I'm pretty confident in saying that battery life degrades faster than OEM batteries. Just perception, but I've had a number of times when I'm surprised that my batteries have run out only to discover it was a Wasabi vs. OEM battery when I swap out (and I rotate my batteries, so I see a lot of Wasabi vs. OEM cycles).

So, my setup is completed. AA-less A7R appears to be slightly sharper and definitely lighter than D800E, it works with most alt lenses and no more dusty mirror chambers or dust specs on pentaprism. My D800E found its new owner already.
PS
Also no more functional AF in low light situations nor decent tracking abilities. Whatever floats Your boat.

Yesterday at the airport I had the opportunity to play several minutes with the A7.
Differently from my NEX-6, I found that the histogram temporarily disappears while I am changing the shutter speed in M-mode... maybe this has been already discussed in the last 160 pages, but I would like to know if there is a way to prevent this behaviour of the camera.

Please could anyone answer my question?
tks
What do you mean by temporarily disappears? Do you mean that the a large display comes up showing the shutter, aperture or ISO changes? If so then yes, there is a setting to disable this panel from appearing. If that is not what you mean a better description would help to understand the issue.

but it's the 3/8" hole that i am curious about, what's that for?
That's an accessory socket
Please excuse the repetition of a previously attached image. This one is updated, should anyone not having followed this thread be interested.
A quick comment on this "L-Plate Set"; I've been a user of both RRS and Markins, while Markins is usually more competitively priced, RRS does have a quality edge. Does that justify the substantially higher cost for RRS? I don't think so.
However, there are a few features not found on the Markins L plate - first the "tool-less" screw (I hate carrying allen keys) since I frequently remove it. Second, holding the A7(r) with the bracket mounted makes it more comfortable to hold, i.e. my little finger no longer curls below the battery chamber. The latter applies equally to the bracket with or without the "L-Plate". It's quite possible the same applies to Markins'.
Regarding the cable clamp, an item most likely of interest to those who want to use the A7(r) for video work, its RRS part number is CA-1.
Cheers

Is the A7 (non-R) any good for someone who doesn't have alt lenses and doesn't plan on using them?
It's probably better than "good" for everything but sports photography/birding assuming the available native lenses cover your most commonly used focal lengths.

IMHO it's a better camera than the A7R, so yes.
No shutter vibrations and shorter/quieter shutter because of the EFC shutter. Phase + contrast AF. Faster. Higher flash sync speed.

Does A7R feel more solid than A7 when a large lens like the Sony 135 or Canon 85L is attached and held in one hand due to full magnesium alloy construction?
Also, is one better than the other in terms of focusing when using Sony ZA lenses with LA-EA4 adapter?

The answer to what is best is hard to say. Are you more camera-focused and happy with a mere 24Mp, or does your heart jump when you see a medium format like image open up in LR/ACR? Do you crop much? Hate shutter sounds? Use flash? Some lucky people are buying one of each..

Well, I have a pretty solid rig (27" iMac with upgraded RAM, etc.) that has never run slower than when I tried to push a bunch of images from the 36MP D800 through it. I don't need 36MP at all. So between the two, the A7 would be my choice. My question was more along the lines of "If I don't have any alt lenses, which I think is what drives many people to purchase the A7 to begin with (to play nice with all of their alt lenses), is it still a great camera for me with the Sony lenses?"
