I was recently running an Oregon coast workshop, and we came here for sunset. This is Thor's Well on the Oregon Coast. It's an area I've photographed many times.
The sky was beautiful as the sun poked in and out from behind the clouds.
Conditions were too good to resist, so I got knee-deep and captured the scene.
this is a great shot. really liking the foreground rocks that anchor the image. most images ive seen from here are just water down to the bottom. very nice
That is very cool. I still have yet to have the right timing to capture this. I like your shot, though I do think the foreground is a bit too bright considering the darkness of the sky.
nice shot. I was there a couple of weeks ago and couldnt get to the well. What path did you take to get there? Did you go down by the bridge or from Neptune Beach?
I'm kicking myself, because this shot was off-center at the horizon by about 1 degree. I had this pointed out to me. Usually it's something I check, but it slipped through my QC this time! I've replaced the image with the corrected level horizon.
@killersnowman: thanks very much. I tried to bring something different to this comp. I went a completely different direction with the processing compared to my last shot: http://500px.com/photo/27282213
@Jimfox: when I brought it back to LR from PS, I bumped it about .25 stops. The histogram was really far to the left, and I wanted the image to pop. I agree that it could be dimmer in the FG
@Michaeljc: I park at the Cook's chasm parking free parking area and take the paved path. Why couldn't you get there?

Jim
agree here with Jim, too heavy on the grads, and the colour cast puts me off too.

@parsons: it was a very different approach to my last shot from here. I guess you can't please everyone.
Re: ND grads-- have you shot here before? Dynamic range is a nightmare. Shooting directly into the sun, it's very difficult to get a proper exposure without ND grad use. I was using a 3 stop Reverse GND and still blended exposures to contain the DR. I can see you might have an issue with the look of the exposure (darker sky, lighter FG) having a bit of an unnatural look to it.
@Mark: Thanks man. How's fall looking down in your region of Oregon?
