I'm running an iMac (2.5 GHz, i5, 16Gb DDR3 and a bog-standard 2 TB HD) using LR5 and no issues at all (currently processing 2,000 shots form my last trip) !
I've tried to explain that it's the website host for my gallery. Even though I downsize them to less than 1 meg JPGs, the gallery host still sees them as 45-meg monsters.
Friscoron, I feel your pain. People just do not READ. I see it all the time in the forums. They half way read something and take off with "answers" that don't connect to the op or ask a question that is clearly in the op or a subsequent reply.
What you're describing defies all logic if the exported files are roughly 1MB, AND you're uploading those same files to your gallery. When I export D800 images for a Wordpress gallery, I usually set Lightroom to a maximum of 900 pixels on the "Long Edge", with a quality of 30. The exported jpeg's are usually in the range of 130-175 kilobytes. Setting the quality to something like 83 only brings them to roughly 350kb, which is nowhere near the 45mb that you're seeing. You've definitely got a fly in the ointment.
