Huh? Years ago, it was okay to smoke while pregnant, does that make it right? What kind of logic is that?

Logic that has nothing to do with what I wrote. Like the rest of your rant.

I am not saying I want grown men to marry teenaged girls. I'm saying that there are biological reasons behind it that don't disappear because society decides correctly that that is not a good idea, and people should take that into account in how they pose their daughters in alleged "portraits" and then post them in public.

Personally, I find the photos brilliant and of exceptional quality. I love the fact that you used b/w vs. color. There are a couple of images that I might have increased the contrast a bit. I'd like some deeper, richer blacks. I used Silver efx and love the Soft Contrast slider, it does wonders.

Your reference to Sally Mann is well taken. Have you ever read about Jock Sturges?

If our society wasn't so prudish and Victorian there would be no controversy about these photos. Given today's society, girls are aware of their sexuality via magazines and TV at a very early age. But we tend to forget that while Queen Victoria lent her name to the era, it was also an era of rampant teen prostitution and really kinky sex.

The only real "problems" here are her age your relationship to her. Personally, I think that porn is in the eye of beholder. I'm sure there are people who could find a burka erotic and are worried that they can't find something even more "discrete."

You are an artist and your collaboration with your daughter has produced some wonderful work.

Thanks for sharing.

Great pictures. Do not see the logic in the comments about her being 15. She just turned prime modeling age and if its not her father taking the shots, then someone else will take the shot and maybe trying to get into her pants to boot. You have your hands full with this girl, she is way pretty.

I'm late to the party here (page 9!!) but... beautiful photos, beautiful daughter, nice work, not creepy, congratulate her on posing quite naturally, and... thanks for sharing your art!

As for some "feminist" who called it porn:

1) Like with all art, its meaning is often subjective to the viewer. Her calling it porn says more about her IMO than it does about you or the photographs. And as someone who enjoys both portrait photography and pornography (and can tell the difference), I'm quite sure this isn't porn.

2) All the self-respecting feminists I know would consider this empowering for your daughter.

I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out what kind of pervert sees pictures of a girl in bed not showing anything and automatically thinks sex.

Not really a fan of what I call, "up the nose" shots otherwise OK.

He specifically said that he wasn't interested in critique on the pictures. He wanted to hear everyone talk about the 'controversy' of shooting his daughter in implied nudity. And we all bit.

This isn't his first thread like this. The earlier one was about "shooting pretty people only"

I guess the "pervert" would be the guy who took the pictures, posted them in public, and then predisposed everyone to think of them sexually by flatly saying HE thought they were sexually suggestive.

The images of your daughter are perceived by many as both sultry and suggestive. How would you feel if they had been taken by one of her "friends", and then distributed on every cell phone in her school? In terms of artistic impression, you've done okay, but in terms of decision making, not so much. There's a reason that 18 (19 in some states) is the age of majority, and I'm afraid you dropped the ball on this one.

+1

The first comment that hits the mark for me. However that doen't detract from the fact they are wonderful photoraphs of a beautiful young girl. I do not see anything but a wistfulness in her expression.

Russell,

In my opinion, (if it matters at all) these are grate photos. My favorites are number 1 & 4. My understanding is that your daughter saw herself in that role and you helped her to realize it. In my world any dad would capture a picture of his own daughter like no one would, given photographic skills of course. I have a daughter of my own and it wouldn't be surprise to say that she is my number 1 subject to photograph Love her to death!!! She is 7 though I believe that any young girl, woman would love to preserve her beauty at some point of her live. Given her age, I personally wouldn't make her hairs as messy as they look in 2 & 3, but she might look that way every morning waking up in her cozy bed, so it's a matter of personal perception. Judging by your work, one can wander what kind of feed back you were looking to get by posting these photographs? I might sound arrogant, but does it really matters who thinks what? I think what counts is that you like what you achieved in these photos and hopefully your daughter gave you kiss on a cheek for making it happen. For all other photographers out-there who has a daughter, would you rather send her to some creepy dude to take her pictures that she is looking for or you would prefer to take it yourself? Aren't our daughters safe with us dads any more Sometime this world is really pissing me off!!! Keep up the good work Russell! I am pretty sure that your daughter will cherish her photos and every time she looks at them when she gets old she will feel you sitting next to her. Isn't it a memory?

Best,

Arthur
