p.2 #1 · Tee Ball - First time shooting ANY sports! | |
Lol, Good. I'm just trying to pay it forward some.
Fences:
Best bet is to get on the field. If you're not very springy on your feet the best thing to do is post up at the back of the first base dugout. This puts coaches in front to get hit before you with a foul ball, and really just makes you worry about bad throws to first, and the right outfielder crashing down. This is another reason the 300 is better. It keeps your far enough away for reaction time. On a cropper it is a 480mm, right? That's no joke. You can be past first and shoot the batter great.
If you can't get on the field:
If you are behind the first base dugout you should shoot the short stop, 2nd, and 3rd making plays to first. Behind the third base dugout, 1st, 2nd, and shortstop to 3rd. Pitcher, behind home plate. Catcher in front of the dugout. for righties you are on first, for lefties you are on third, but both are good, actually. This still sucks. Get on the field.
How to get on the field:
Clear it with the tourney director. Pay him if you are going to make money. Beg if you are not. Next step is Blue. He can kick you off any time. Say hi before he asks what you are doing there. Then coaches. Do not get in their way. Do not let them worry about you getting a shot. You move, they play their game.
IQ AF:
This is your call based on what you want to do with the final. If you shoot through the fence you will have a gray haze on some shots, others will be badly focused. Keepers will be better.
Shoot high, more in focus, less gray haze, not so good keepers.
Exposure is the easiest dang thing:
Your ISO changes about 3 times a day. If you ever shoot a 2.8 lens at anything but 2.8 for sports, you should be shot in the face with a shotgun. If you're gonna pay for it, use it. So all you got left is shutter. Conveniently, right by your trigger finger. Low puffy clouds are the hardest. They are one stop in shade and sun. Find you exposure for skin in sun and drop one stop for shade. Pale skin is down 2/3 stop from even. Dark, open it up 2/3 stop from even. It is math, but it is a range of simply 2 stops. 6 clicks on your shutter dial gives you absolute control.
Blow out the ball. Blow out the jersey. Whatever it takes, get the skin color. Also, if you shoot long at 2.8 there is nothing in the background but beautiful random colors, and really white is fine. Get skin color on the face. Blow out the arms or chin. That helmet shadow sucks.
Trust me, no matter what the conditions, you never work with more than 2 stops on shutter. Keep it above 1/800 at the lowest. Thats it. It is easier than priority modes. And there is no changes you didn't do.
White balance:
Learn your printer. How you deliver is what you shoot for. You just have to know, but I promise you, parents want warmer over cool period. forget the grass? Can I swear or not?
The non-IS I have with the original canon QC sticker was $2200.
