Yes. Somebody posted a good amount of tests with the 50L here a few months back which explained the AF difficulties due to lens curvature. I have trouble with the 50L on my 5D II when using the outer AF spots, they rarely work with this lens for some reason. Center focus is edge on after microfocus adjustment. I don't have this problem with outer AF spots with any of my other EF lenses.
It's odd that everybody has such different results with the 50 1.2L but such seems to be common. AF with outer points with this lens was useless on my 5D, even in bright light. Luckily the center was okay. However, strangely enough, the outer points work very reliably on my 5D MKII except in low light of course.
this won't save anybody money, but the 50 1.4 and it's awful AF motor are 10 times better on my 5d3 than on my 7d. it's like it suddenly got conviction. it's still sloppy and noisy and just a pig aesthetically though. it's the anti-leica, if you get me. I'll be first in line when they overhaul it. (as long as its not $950)
To the Op, have you tried mounting the 30 1.4 to your bodies? I'm sure it'll mount and Af, not sure about the vignetting though. Also, have you though about the 40 2.8? It's the best deal IMHO. super sharp and wider is useful since you still have a small crop factor.
My 50/1.8 Mark I is amazingly sharp even at 1.8 and I rarely am shooting wide open anyway. I had the 50/1.2L and while it was good, I didn't see enough benefit to keep it.
