Well, try some f1.4/f1.8 glass and get back to us

Using 50 1.4D and 85 1.4D = no difference in WB. Focusing speed in low-light = same with both 1.02 and new firmware.

Gee, maybe it only updated G lenses...sorry. Everyone else seems to see some difference,
or maybe we're all just hallucinating...yeah that's it! My 7 acts like my 8 with the Sigma A f1.4
so that in and of itself is cause for celebration. Same scene K values almost mirror each other.

Reviving an old thread

The thing I noticed most after the firmware upgrade is better Matrix metering. I set exposure compensation like I used to pre-firmware update only to find that I have to undo them in post. It is consistent. I am sure it is the result of the firmware update. Anybody else noticed this?

I'd like to revive this again, and see if anyone has some more substantial evidence to support other features besides the additional lens compatibility for the firmware update.

All I know for sure is that my D700 was on the block. After the update it got promoted to Tue night
exhibitions with the AF-S 300 f4. Matrix IS excellent, body responds like my D3 (always thought it was a
half a step behind it) Don't really care what was specifically tweaked, just know it's better than ever and
Nikon did us a solid here. What's that about a gift horse...

Can a person go straight from no Firmware updates to this one do I need to do all previous ones before doing this one?

Go straight from no firmware updates to this one. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

Do enjoy capturing images while the "More megapixel = better image crowd" wipes oil off their sensors and wonders whether their LH AF-points are really fixed.

Thank you for your feedback! Was that from version 1.02 to 1.03; 1.03 to 1.04, or did you skip 1.03?

Pretty sure I've stayed up with them over the years, so doubt I skipped a version.
The recent refurb I picked up (56 clicks) came with 1.03 and it's been amazing.

I wonder why the 800 required a firmware update, I've never heard of that happening before (with Nikon).

Not that I know of. It's been out for several months now.

1)
It will take you 3 minutes to do.

2)
You will wonder why you never did it earlier.

Many of FM's veteran shooters have highly recommended it, why the paranoia?!
You can always go back, you know.

Nikon's Deny_Delay_Deceive handling of the D800 AF issue and D600 oil on sensor issue might be making the OP hesitant to trust Nikon in firmware updates as well.

Just my wild guess.

No prob., Ed. Anyone using my action set can shoot me a PM. Suffice it to say all is good, with Center Weight
accuracy now pretty damn impressive. Did an awesome job for me last barrel race with the 300 f4 in tow.
