Sorry to burst your media spoon fed image of Shanghai, but here it goes. Some of my images from this city.

Nice pics, though i would comment that it looked nothing like that when i visited a few years ago. The smog wasn't quite so bad as in the news link, but it wasn't exactly clear viewing either. Beijing was as bad.

Shanghai has its bad days, but the city is overall much better than when I first started coming here in 2004. I would not live here if it were that bad. The weather more of an issue for me than the pollution. This place has some of the worst weather I've ever experienced.

You took a statement of mine, among many, that was rather inconsequential to the discussion, and held it up for ridicule to prove your perceived superiority and then answered your own question in screaming caps. That's petty and aggressive behavior.

Don't be sorry. Just because all the Apple fanboyz jump on you is no reason to back down from your argument. And it doesn't have to be contentious. Why does Apple feel it can dictate to the gov't what they will and won't do with regard to corporate tax? Because the present administration has made this country a haven for the rockstar corporate icons to do whatever they please. And then we'll invite them to the white house for a private party with Jay Z(ero) and B(igbooty)eyonce. Oh, as far as you and I, pay your taxes or go to

Death and taxes(for 99%) are the only "fer sures"!!
Well stated Sarsfield and "BL"...Your post is fine with me. I was stunned to find out that when I received my MacBook Pro that it was made and shipped from China.
But then again unless you build your own or have it built here in the US, are there any USA made computers, photographic eqpt(excluding many accys), cameras? Very few I imagine but then again I don't really know.
I would have gladly paid a bit more to have it made here in the USA.

If you were stunned, then you are most definitely behind the loop. I don't think there is a single computer sold in the USA that isn't manfuctured - wholly or mostly - in China. And its been that way for years.

so-so flick "The Company Men" had a great line on the closing credits: "these private equity firms, they make money the old fashioned way - they STEAL it."

I look at this thread and find myself a bit bewildered... then I recall that I used the Hide Me button so I wouldn't have to read what some FM members have to say. I'm so much happier that way...

"... Apple executives told the Subcommittee that the company has no intention of returning those funds to the United States unless and until there is a more favorable environment, emphasizing a lower corporate tax rate and a simplified tax code."

Go in front of the IRS and say this. Oh, and send us your new address at Leavenworth so we can keep in touch.

I know, it sounds arrogant, but as I (OP) found out later, Apple has not broken any laws, yet. The US wants Apple's offshore money but the present tax code works against the nation's best interest. Until a new "favorable" (to Apple) tax code is legislated, Apple can try to dictate terms. OTOH, the US could pass a new tax code that leaves no room for Apple to bargain. The advantage there goes to the US because they (Congress) make the laws.

BTW: I only wish that more than a few corporate offenders went to jail. Rick Scott (R), the present governor of Florida, and his company bilked Medicare for millions.. Then with a wave of the wand, and a lot of money going to the right people, he was elected governor.

Hmm, why would you even bring this up on a photo forum.
Does Apple make cameras?
Seriously, did you get rebuked on Twitter & FB and were looking for a sympathetic crowd here?

What Apple did was totally legal and a result of some folks always trying to demonized success & the producers of wealth.

This in an attempt to give the impression that their brand of socialism would work if they could just get at that ill-gotten gain/wealth and feed all the bought votes, err I mean the entitled class, err I mean the poor & disenfranchised.

Kind of like France taxing at 70-100%. This is all about face time for politicians. Absolutely nothing of consequence will come from trotting out some business exec to berate him on camera.

Nice try though

Sadly that is the truth, and not only in the US.

Whatever your opinion of the relative incomes of people on different rungs of the corporate ladder, we all know that we see now is just a media exercise and nothing will fundamentally change.

Because it was newsworthy, and a test to see who can be flexible enough, if even for one post, to allow the possibility of intelligent discussion beyond the typical Misc. posts. However, I understand that there are those who find it difficult think outside-the-photography-box, even on the Misc. Forum, the place that has had so many off-photography topics over the years that it's staggering. If I were you I would just move on to the next topic instead of challenging a post that is already 1000 deep before you showed up with most of your questions addressed two weeks ago.

Does Apple make cameras?

Um, the iPhone. I know, it's just a camera phone, but it will be the camera used by the Chicago Sun Times writers since the entire photography staff was fired. Apple also makes Aperture software. So technically they are in the photo business too.

Seriously, did you get rebuked on Twitter & FB and were looking for a sympathetic crowd here?

Seriously, no. Sympathetic to what... the news?

What Apple did was totally legal and a result of some folks always trying to demonized success & the producers of wealth.

It's all been discussed here over the past few weeks. Day late, dollar short.

Actually, it is practically impossible to have an "intelligent discussion" when the subjects of Apple and taxes are tied together in one thread. Those of us who've read any of this thread understand that to be true. That the possibility was lost on you makes one wonder... perhaps you just enjoy stirring the pot...

Nothing wrong with that, but suggesting you were looking for something else seems absurd on the face of it... especially given the contribution you've made to this brouhaha. I hope you had fun...

I thought this topic was over about a week ago, then the personal stuff appeared. Is Apple right, or wrong? At this point, I don't care, and hopefully nobody else will. We are giving out way too many opposing view "likes" here.

So, until another thick and juicy post appears (not from me), I have resigned myself to reading more camera store complaints, answering questions that a Google search would reveal in two seconds, helping people that never say thank you, and contributing more to the 5000 comments because a lens was stolen, or scammed.... whatever. That's what I'm talking about!

I'm probably the last one to the party, but here is my two cents worth. I agree with Borderlights
view that while Apple hasn't broken any laws, they have gamed the system to the hilt. Even beyond that, they have exploited the workers at Foxcon an dhave exported American jobs overseas. The fact that so many people here can not, or will not understand this, is reflective
of the divisions in our country and the MISTAKEN BELIEF THAT GREED IS GOOD!

This is a complete change to the original topic.

At one time Apple did make digital cameras.

I have one.

It is now a paperweight.
