Displays are one of the most important elements in your entire workflow. You spend good money on good glass and good bodies why limit yourself by purchasing a substandard display? Another vote for the NEC PA displays, they are incredible value for the money.

Why is that?
Because wide gamut monitors are designed for the adobeRGB color space not sRGB where most wedding photographers live. I have a pair of dell 30" ultrasharps, one is from 2007 and is wide gamut only and drove me nuts for years with color. I have a new one from this past fall that actually has option to work solely in sRGB color space so I would think you wouldn't have an issue if you use that mode.
I vote for Dell Ultrasharps too, they are good monitors for the money. Size = your budget.
We were always budget minded, but we basically just calibrated our laptops to our prints so we knew that what we were seeing on the screen was almost exactly what the albums would look like. It never failed us, although doing that calibration on Ubuntu was a bit of a challenge (I used xcalib and basic trial and error until I got xcalib -clear; xcalib -green 1 15.0 100.0 -red 1 10.0 100.0 -blue 1.1 5.0 90.0 -gc 1.5 -a, which worked for my laptop in the Terminal).
I can highly recommend a 27" IPS panel (Apple cinema screen in a OEM case)
These are made by several OEM producers, Catleap, Crossover Potaloin etc...
Search ebay, 2560 x 1440 27", usually about $350 delivered from South Korea.
I use one and it's 100% color matched, cant be beaten for the price.
Just get a perfect pixel version that is tested for no bad pixels.

These are the same panels in the Monoprice 27". I think I'd buy from Monoprice before I'd buy from an overseas retailer. They have a great service track record.
Mine is reflective glass but you can get matt versions.
Personally I prefer the glass finish as it really makes the images pop off the screen.
But if you happen to have a window opposite the monitor screen your going to get reflections with a glass monitor. Best place the monitor with it's back to the window to cut out reflections.
