Excellent work on these Greg, nicely focused, sharp shots. For C&C, the thing I see in all of these is that the critical focus is not the eye of these birds. If in fact it is then maybe you MA is off a tad but as I see it the closest part of the bird to the camera is where the focus is That or my old eyes just plain suck
You sure came back from across the pond with some killer images, I'm jealous
Appreciate it, Tim. What's an MA? (I have been blissfully ignorant about MAs until reading your comment, which prompted me to sort through a virtual pile of old threads and actually check). The good news is my MAs are not so bad (< |3|); the bad news is that the alternative is user error. Actually, the last 3 were so skittish and tiny that I felt lucky to get an AF point anywhere on the bird, and hoped that DOF would come to my rescue. The same can't be said for the chaffinch...the only solution is to have another go (which I will probably do next year)!
Excellent set, Greg.
That chaffinch is the fattest-looking non-fowl bird I've ever seen!
Your big images no doubt emphasize it, but still- a real fatso.
I wonder why?

Thanks, Charlie; I'm not sure why that Chaffinch looks so big; there were several flitting around, but this one was an avian couch potato!
