p.3 #1 · D5100 vs. D600 with same 24-70 lens - huge IQ difference?

Dan, you have a fairly good set of DX lens - stepping up to FF would also necessitate some money spent on lenses - you have mentioned one but you will want more - so stepping up to your contemplated D600 will cost you in other ways in addition to the one lens you mentioned. So get prepared to spend more than the difference between the 2 cameras if you go with the 600.

Now if money is not an overriding consideration, I would move to the D600 as soon as possible - mainly for all the reasons listed above (except for monitor size - a side issue that should have its own thread). Moving to a middle step for me, in the long run, has always proven a far costly route than going directly. The technical reasons given above in favor of the D600 leave out an important part - very important part in my opinion - FUN!! I have limited time to shoot. I want to make it the most enjoyable experience I can make it in those moments. The summation of all the technical reasons listed is --- more FUN! More FUN shooting! More FUN reviewing your better IQ pictures. More FUN doing things (experimenting) with the D600 the D5100 can NEVER do! The latitude of the 600 allows it to be so much more of a capable FUN machine. Just MHO. (D800 was never FUN - just work!)

Best to you in your decision!
