Thankfully for me I only use Photoshop for final edits on tiff. All my RAW processing is done with nx2. Capture one, DPP, and Photo Ninja. I also have Lightroom when speed is of the essence.

Does NX2 offer anything resembling the spot healing brush with content aware such that is found in PS, and now LR5?
It has a healing brush, but nothing like content aware - content aware is probably my most used tool in PS with smart sharpen a close second.
My workflow is to do white balance, dust spot removal, major curves adjustments, CA removal, vignetting, and cropping in NX2, then I export to 16 bit TIFF to PS for final highlight/shadow correction, content aware fill, final sharpening, and downsizing.
So I'd say about ~1/4 of my workflow steps go through PS.
I will milk PS6 for as long as I can and then find another solution (I have LR, but don't use it much).
Even the cheapest plan doesn't make sense for me AND the fact that if you stop paying you lose all access to your photoshop files is a real deal breaker.
I wish they would have multiple plans:
- Subscription plan in which you'd get the latest and greatest right away, but if you unsubscribe that's it - software no longer works. Adobe would guarantee significant updates each quarter or something like that.
- Yearly plan where you'd have to wait 1 year for the cumulative updates, but your software would still work after you fell off the plan
- Plan C - Whatever that may be
Over at DPReview I've never seen the # of comments on an article go over 1,000 - it's currently past 1,300 and still rising - mostly negative. Adobe may have stepped in it.

Wonder what new addition PS will add when they start this to attract users. I'm pretty sure it's gotta be something different than what CS6 already offers.
the blur correction filter, first shown a few years ago and never moved into CS6, now probably the "cool feature" to lure you to the cloud.

Thanks John. I never was crazy about the UI with NX2, but I may have to reconsider. I've also taken a look at Corel Paintshop ProX5, not too bad looking and definitely affordable.
It may be hard to teach an old dog new tricks though as I have been using LR so long I'm not sure I want to learn a whole new system. Plus, like I said earlier, with LR5 adding the new features, I may not need to go anywhere else. Unless adobe decides to add LR to the cloud one day, then I'm screwed!

Yea Peter, I though about that one but haven't heard anything else about it.

I am still using Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 2. No problems with Nikon D300 bodies. I tried to update to LR4 but it would not load because I need to get a new OS because I am still using Windows XP. For my workflow, events=LR. Some additional tweaks may need Photoshop. You could say "casual Photoshop user" but I am a serious user but only when necessary. Not really interested in getting all the latest software. I like Nik plugins and Portrait Pro. They are currently working for me. If we are already happy, Adobe still wants more money.

I've spent some time reading their new plan and there isn't anything in it that I like. Yes, for the first year it only costs me $10 a month, if I sign up in the time frame of the offer, but I'm still looking at a perpetual monthly bill for services that I don't want or need, namely the cloud.
At this point, I think that I can make do with LR and CS6 for many years to come. What I won't do is tie my files into a system that holds them hostage, so I'll be looking at alternative editors in the coming years. Funny, I was a happy Paint Shop Pro user for many years and only switched to Photoshop for ACR. I may simply go back to using the latest version of PSP, since I now have several other options for RAW conversion. But, that will depend on what they do with LR. If it goes to the cloud scheme later on, I'll be done with Adobe.

I like stand-alone products as I generally will buy something and use it for years. I use PS-Element 4.0 and it does all I need ... I prefer NX anyway for the simple edits I do.
The other issue is I often am using my computers while NOT connected to the WEB and I prefer to keep all my data local. I have no interest in cloud space and trusting someone else with my data. This whole "revloution" of remote authorization and cloud is not my cup of tea .... I like being able to disconnnect from the web and having privacy ... and I suspect many comertial companies feel the same way when it come to their IP. Companies that force customers to go to the web/cloud to use software will loose business.

You get Lightroom as part of the full Creative Cloud subscription. Not sure if that changes any of your feelings everyone.
I'm currently on the $30/month deal. Not looking forward to when the year is up, and my payments go up to $50. I did the math out when I signed up on the $30 month deal, and it was "OK" for my plan to use Lightroom, Photoshop and Premier. $50 is in that grey area.

Guess I'll stick to CS6 for the foreseeable future.
The irony is that despite Adobe's efforts to alienate its user base to combat piracy, I bet there will be a hacked version of PS available anyway. It's just a matter of time.

There are some pretty nice new things going into PSCC. I'll probably sign-on. PS has always been expensive software and photographers have been complained about that price. The good thing is you can keep using PS 4 or 5 or 6; but, eventually you will want the latest and greatest improvements--or not.
Not a fan of pirated software, feels like stealing.

For the pros and institutions it's just part of the cost of doing business. It is to expensive for a lot of other folks and I think that it will spur creation of a viable alternative. Once they have you signed up, the price is certain to rise quickly. They will have their hands in our pockets perpetually. Furthermore, their support is poor to begin with and using the cloud will probably cause many new issues and problems. Google has recently purchased NIK.I hope they are
planning a big surprise for Adobe!

Adobe has a response to the ruckus posted over at DPReview.
"We don't have plans to make Lightroom a subscription-only option but we do envision added functionality for the CC version of Lightroom"
So I take this to mean that the non-subscription version of LR will stagnate and the CC version will get all the development. This is equivalent to saying that LR will also go the CC route.
The whole tone of the responses seems very slippery to me. It seems they could have just split LR and CS completely with LR being an annual license and CS being in the "cloud" and not very useful for photographers.

It's not the fees for me - it's the fact that you can't open your PSD files after you stop paying.
I'd be cool with a subscription that froze you at whatever version you are at after you stopped the subscription, but still worked. I know that not's too different from the current model, heck it's just not worth it!
It's kind of like using Rogain (which I could definitely use, but refuse to) - once you start using it an the hair comes back you are hooked for the rest of your life else the hair falls out if you stop your Rogain subscription . . . .
