I can see myself buying the BM4K but the 1DC is beyond the budget and no raw. While I don't need raw all the time, sometimes it could save the day.

I don't think the looks matter that much for a camera intended to be used 100% of the time on a fully kitted out rig. All it needs to be, and is, is a box round the sensor with a lens mount.
