to be honest Tariq, if you hadnt mentioned it here I could have spent a lifetime of blessed ignorance without ever noticing it
damn u

mind you it does have +7 clarity +17 contrast and 32 sharpening
but that's just enough to liven up a raw file, I wouldnt go more with an XTrans file

Ha ha, sorry!

I was at first disappointed when I heard the X100s would be using the xtrans sensor but after the huge improvements seen in the last versions of ACR/LR with the raws, that's no longer the case. IQ from the x100s appears to be a pretty decent leap over the X100. In fact, looking at the raws over at Imaging Resource and their studio still life shots, IQ is very close/ just behind even the Sony RX1.

The increased contrast in your setting is probably what brought out the watercolor effect.

I'd like to see some focus on what seems like major ISO rating inflation. Is ISO 3200 actually anywhere close to 3200, or is it more like 1600 (or still less than that)?

Looking at the color checker grey squares in the controlled studio shots at Imaging Resource for the X100s, RX1 and D800, the X100s does appear to be about one stop less than the indicated ISO speed. So, for ISO 200, the Exp is F8@1/15sec. on the X100s whereas the the RX1 gives the same exp value (checking the color checker with info in Photoshop) at ISO 100, F8@1/15sec and the D800 ISO 100, F8@1/20sec.
