Yes. I bought mine used 1 year ago exactly next month because I wanted it for my family Hawaii vacation. But the mk II hits all the right spots for me I might be able to wait till they hit the used market. I'll see if I have enough will power
The main complaint regarding this camera is its well known lack of close focusing. In an attempt to circumvent that issue, I attached a Pentax 67 SMC S82 doublet close-up lens, via 58mm to 67mm step-up ring. Following are some results.
The outcome was satisfying enough that I've ordered a B+W 58mm +5 close-up lens (more powerful), which is considerably smaller and lighter weight than this Pentax model. I'll post some of those results after it arrives from Adorama.
Wii controllers shot at 15mm and 60mm settings at closest focus, 270EX II flash
Books at 15mm and 60mm, 270EX II flash
Tape at 26-27mm and 60mm, 270EX II flash
Close up at minimum focus, 60mm, 270 EX II flash
Detail from the above shot -- impressive sharpness in the dot pattern
In summary, the +1 was fine and provided best DOF and adequate close-focusing without having to shift the camera from Normal to Macro setting. +4 and +5 were too much of a good thing, moving into the true macro range, which would/should be approached with more preparations and use of tripod for best results.
I leave the aftermarket converter on the camera and use a 58mm lens cap. It adds slightly to the depth of the body, but no big deal. Much easier dealing with the 58mm lens cap than the tiny one that comes with the camera.
I just ordered the Hoya +3. As I said in the other thread, I think the Canon 250D (+4) is quite strong. Nice when you are going for into a flower but often too much. The Canon 500D (+2) is good for groups of flowers but not quite strong enough for my taste. Hoping the +3 is just right.
I can't post images on here and I doubt if monitor images are that relevant ...... but I am preparing for a public exhibition and several of my A2 prints come from my G1X....the IQ with LR5 is exceptional. Other prints come from MF fine grain B+W film and the 1GX can hold its head up high.
