This is one of the nicest pictures I have seen lately. Could you explain about the filters you used (if any) and postprocessing?

Thanks I used no filters. This is a two shot blend - one for sky and one for the flowers. I was super close to the flowers and not everything was in perfect focus in one shot.

I used a combo of kuyper actions, nik software and masking on this one. All done in CS6.

I assume you have to shoot manual with this lens, using the aperture ring to set aperture and the camera to set shutter speed? Does camera metering still work via viewfinder and Live view?

Thinking about grabbing one for some fun, but never had a manual lens, so I want to make sure I understand how it functions with the camera.

it's manual, like any old Nikkor MF lens. Shoot in M or A mode, select aperture and focus on lens. Maybe the chipped version lets you use the aperture dial - dunno.

You should have a body that allows you to set non-CPU lens data, otherwise buy the 14mm with the chip (whopping $70 more, saves you a few seconds). Opically, they are the same. Also shop for best price - Samyang, Rokinon, Bower and ProOptic are all the same lens with a different name on it, but prices are not the same.

Mine is AE version. It works in all modes PASM, controls aperture from body, gives focus indicator, puts shooting info in exif and even provides distance information back to body (like AF-D lenses). The only thing that doesn't do is AF.

Another. Love this lens for the ability to emphasize the foreground and background.

Well, you guys talked me into it. Ordered one from B&H today, should arrive tomorrow, in tie for my trip to Charleston next week. Should be a neat little toy for me to have down there.

Sweet shots everyone! bipock, you will enjoy this lens - and soon realize that is isn't just a toy, but a friend as well

Here is one from about a month ago. For those of you on the west coast, the beaches can be good for sunrise! I didn't run this file through the PTLens profile...

Very nice and sure, I've had a few days with some nice morning glow on the coast. Mornings can be magic.

So far I have never needed to correct any lens distortion with the Samyang but I haven't had the opportunity to use it much as I have been unable to get out because of a torn rotator-cuff.

How does the sharpness of this compare to the 14-24? Anyone have experience with both?

What is the best way to focus? Mine arrived today and after 20-30 shots using AF confirm and LV, I am yet to get anything in focus. Even tried setting the lens at 5.6 and 1.5 m with nothing. Focal distance is about 10 ft.

Hyperfocal/infinity for anything beyond 4.5 ft and f/5.6 (established experimentally, since the markings on the lens aren't accurate from copy to copy), LV for everything else.

Their QC is suspect. I went through 3 copies to get a good one. The first was just plain soft no matter what I tried. The second was decentered, the third was perfect.
