In the second one, have you dialled down the highlights in the camera?
Hi Ian cheers for the kind words. No I haven't...to be honest, I haven't really figured out much of the in camera options nor explored them yet. Will have a look at the manual tonight though, I've already been impressed with this little camera out of the box but I'm sure it's capable of way more!

I have talked with two people that own both the X100 and X100s and they both say the older sensor is better. Any more of you feel that way?
You know two people who own both of them? Some spendy friends.
Cannot speak to the x100, ut the camera and it's sensor deliver in a big way (though I tend to take more photographs then analyze them at various %'s of zoom for discussion later)
Three from Neist Point on Skye with the older x100 ... this sensor is plenty good enough for me. It is a good walk to the light house and back and the cliff at the end is pretty steep when you have tired legs! But my 4 year old managed it so I shouldn't complain!

The two I know, both rented the new version to test out and see if they wanted to upgrade. Neither do from an IQ standpoint.
