Hard work from the German team! Good game, although more goals would have improved it a bit. I felt it was a bit marred by dirty play from Argentina though. There were a couple of horrendous tackles, and the constant attacks on Schweinesteiger's right leg were very frustrating, not to mention the punch to his face, requiring on-site stitches. I was expecting more from Argentina and actually cheered them on in the previous rounds.
Yeah, just saw them, nice! What a nice time it was yesterday, everyone super relaxed. A couple of drunk Argentinians had crawled up on a platform and were waving their flag and dancing around for hours, and it didn't bother anyone I had the longest conversation with a German to date where he didn't realise that I wasn't German until I told him
What was amazing to me-- a Zuagrosta... ok an Ami expat-- was the combination of national pride, diversity (in ethnicities, not so much age, it was a youngish crowd), and lightness. It's nice to see Germans, including recently and not so recently arrived Turks and other immigrants-- able to wave their flags proudly, enjoy their sporting victory, and bond in such a cohesive, open environment.
There were definitely Argentinian flags being waved in the crowd too. And so many different languages on offer.
Yeah, it has changed a lot in recent years. In the years I have been here, Germany was 2nd in 2002, 3rd in 2006 and 3rd in 2010, and in the last two cups the feelings expressed have been a lot stronger than in the first two. It seems that the younger generations no longer feel guilty when they express pride in their country, but the older ones still have it there somewhere under their skin.
I'm a bit late to the party. I have been searching for my 'take everywhere' camera for a while. I tried out some MFT gear but finally ended up deciding to go Fuji. I had used the X100 for a little while when it was first released and I was always impressed by it.
A couple recent shots from family grabs so far. I haven't used it yet on a wedding or portrait session but I hope to put it to pro use this September on a few gigs.
