p.23 #1 · Fujifilm X100 Series Image Thread

The firmware upgrades helped the X100 a lot with regard to focusing. The X100 with up to date firmware isn't much behind the X100s. I could see just fine with my old X100 when I last used it (by which time it belonged to the friend of mine I sold it to), including with the EVF. It's not as good as it is on the X100s, but it still works fine for most situations. No help with the manual focus, of course. That's not changing.

i only use manual focus, so the x100 was unusable as a camera for me.

Really? I feel like even the X100s wouldn't be good enough for that. It has good manual focusing, but it's not as good as something like my Mamiya 7 (which is what I need to be able to rely on manual focus).

I've only briefly tried the x100s but it seemed more usable for manual focus to me than anything other than the latest Sony evf cameras or an old film slr. I never liked rangefinders because I hate focus recompose and not seeing proper framing or real dof. it seemed to me the weakest aspect of the x100s for mf was the focus ring, but even that was way ahead of the x100.

Hi, I am new to the X100. Unfortunately I could not afford the X100S however I managed to purchase a Fuji refurb X100 black limited edition ( mint / as new condition ) for £532. I'm delighted with it. I must say that the X100S images in some cases seem sharper. This sharp, biting and razor sharp look is great to see however there are times when it looks overdone and almost artificial. I had a Canon G1X which applied aggressive sharpening to edging giving a forced look to images - I sold it.

I love this forum and in particular

Probably, but it doesn't matter much to me . People can either choose to believe me or not. I've owned and sold both the X100 and X100s. I can see myself owning the X100 again. I would never, ever own an X100s again.

How long you owned X100S? Do you have some examples of images you took where we can see that sensor is no good?

I for example own two FF DSLR'S with a set of Zeiss lenses. So i have something to compare to. And I can tell that I don't see any problem with the sensor in X100S. Yes look is a bit different from X100. There are plenty of image examples online. So why didn't you looked before you upgraded to X100S?

Rangefinders definitely aren't for everyone. I always focus and recompose, no matter what camera I'm using, so that's no problem for me. The precision that the 7 allows for is unparalleled in my experience so far. I'm fortunate that it works for me, though, and I recognize that it can't be so for everyone. Depth of field is usually not an issue for me, and I just go along with the frame lines. It's almost always enough for me.

I owned one for about five weeks, roughly speaking. No, I am not posting any images. I've said that before and I'll say it one more time. People can either take my word for it or not.

There weren't many images available online when I got my copy of the X100s-- I bought it locally in March, before it had been widely distributed. The early reviews were highly positive, though, as anyone paying attention at the time knows. They didn't prepare me for the look of the images, however, although I should have anticipated it, given the problems many people had with the X-Pro 1 and X-E1. The X100's sensor is a great one, and is the closest I've seen any sensor come to replicating the gentle nature of negative film (please no interjections about the film emulations-- that stuff is nonsense to me). It's not all the way there, but it's a lot closer than anything else I've seen.

Thanks chris78cpr & Diploneis!

Ian: Yes not all but a lot of them are VSCO edits. The vintage feeling of the pp fits really well with the experience of shooting with the X100s imo . Great portraits from you btw!

Diploneis: I like the blue colored house much and the man/woman shot is great!

ssnap: Nice captures.

Brody LeBlanc: Great set!
