Dead Horse Point State Park is a really cool place. As I was traveling through Utah I reserved a couple of days to shoot with my friend Craig Carr, he knows the Canyonlands and that area of Utah like the back of his hand. So one morning for sunrise found us here at Dead Horse and Craig took me around to a couple of his favorite locations.
This morning there was no clouds, so other than a shot where I tried to include the moon in the shot, most shots included minimal skies. #3 is the last shot from that series where as the Earth Shadow and the Belt of Venus added some nice color to an otherwise bland sky, so I went in for a tighter shot. In most of these cases I do try to catch the edge of the sunrise to add some gold into the sky also. To read more about this I have decided to do like so many others and to start blogging. So for more information, or for some reading to go to sleep by, please click Here.
I can certainly see the natural progression of longer and longer focal lengths. #1 has more items of interest, but I really like the simplicity of #3's comp. The foreground rock on the right really fits well with the snaking river bend.
I've been there several years ago but wasn't a keen photographer at that time. Your pictures make me feel to go back to Moab again. Fantastic shots, love the three
Jim very nice shots,2 and 3 work the best with nice comps and the color of the earth shadow skies really makes 3 sweet. I will start checking out you blogging . Regards Dean
Very nice set! I like the foreground objects: the twisted juniper, the looming sandstone and even a glimpse of the Shafer Trail. The colors are nice and saturated. Thanks!
Beautiful images, all of them. I don't really have a favorite but I love the changing skies and ice flowing through the river. It pays to be there at dawn!
These turned out really well, the crystal clear Utah skies you were battling weren't detrimental at all!
Exquisite!
What I hate about this series though, I can't pick which one is my favorite. I like them all.
The composition is nice. All areas are properly exposed.
