@sjms Great shots. Just as an fyi, on my screen too (22") your posts run just a little over. It's not just the pics, it's the whole width of the post. But It's not just you, others posts do too. I've often wondered what causes it, but I don't know enough about all that to have a real idea. I wonder though if it could be some kind of setting at FM or something--just guessing.

I guess the same can be said about your totally useless post. I know I am not adding anything to this topic...but I have to call you out on your post. Zero, yes zero value.
That's how it got to 4 pages...zero value to you...so move on! This whole forum has turned into a vast wasteland...people piling more and more inane comments on top of snide, snarky and mean comments.

RJK what did you end up deciding? My friend got the same exact camera from adorama with a package deal they had going on for D4, with a battery, memory card, 3 year warranty, and 5% rewards. Plus he got 3% from his CC, so overall 8% off and $450 worth of stuff... It's like getting a new D4 for $5000. A great deal overall! He hasn't done any extensive AF testing, but so far his is doing okay. No adjustment needed with his 85 1.4 at 1.4. I would upload photos but I don't have buy/sell upgrade (yet..).
I paid a lot more for my 1dx, and although the 1dx is a much better camera overall.... I think the adorama deal paired with a CC that gives you 3% rewards is totally worth it.
So I was curious to know if you will get another D4 or what? What did you shoot with previously, you stated that your d4 was not sharp at 5.6?? this seems unreasonable, what exactly do you mean by sharpness? Posting some samples would really help others here see if you just got a lemon or what.

Very unfortunate experience and I suspect not a common problem but surely frustrating. That said, nothing in this world is perfect 100% of the time even with inspections. Luckily you can return/exchange it. Some of the most expensive purchases one can buy are non returnable (cars, homes).

when I purchased my first canon 1Ds it arrived DOA. my 1Ds2 failed 1.5 months into use just before a trip down under. my 1D3? we won't go there. all ended up being replaced under warranty. all were lost time of use but I always have a backup.
so far since late 2008 the only piece of Nikon gear that has failed was my SB700 flash zoom feature out of warranty. my CC extended warranty handled it.

SJMS, nice images, but could they not have been taken with almost any other Nikon body?
or any camera body to an extent. but this is one of the 2 bodies I choose to use. that is because I find it to be one of the most accurate fastest reacting easiest to use bodies around. it helps make my job easier and I like that. but then there was a short learning curve on the revised AF system. I have good shots taken with almost every camera I've used both Nikon or Canon along with Hassy and Fuji in just the past few years .i am not so brand sensitive. I can shoot with anyone's preferred gear if they wish and their paying. my preference to Nikon is due to its ergonomics. for the 5 years I did canon it felt less adapted to my way of usage. what held me back from Nikon earlier was their lack of FF option.

They are basically the same camera. Just very minor performance differences. Your 1dx is not leaps and bounds ahead like you make it out to be. You should probably go play with the Canon fanboys instead of trying to convince everyone here Nikon sucks.

Worthless to you.. Well maybe not, as you did spend your time reading it, then posting your obnoxious, and truly worthless comments. And guess what... I'm allowed to bitch, whine , cry if I want to. You're the knucklehead who's so upset about it... Move on then!

The body is going back, I will exchange it for another one. If that one doesn't work, though I can't imagine 2 bodies not working, I will go back to the D3s

look, for what it is going from a D3 to D4 was a larger step for me then from a D3s to a D4 for you. i'd save on it and get something that you really need rather then you think you want.

Did anyone consider that this may not be an issue with Nikon at all? It could have gotten bumped in the shipping and been thrown out of alignment.
While I understand the agrivation at spending $6K on a new camera body, I think the level of whining by the OP is a bit over the top. Just send the damb thing in and exchange for a new one. Stop being a cry baby.

STFU... I'm done.
All you unhelpful folks... I am really really really hoping that someday soon you spend $6k on something that doesn't work correctly, and that you get to experience that frustration. Then when you voice that frustration, I hope that a plethora of mean, unhelpful and rude jackals taunt you and call you names!

Sorry that it has to come to this. There was a guy who posted here not long ago with D4 problems and sent it into Nikon for repair. Nikon actually lost his D4. Gave him the run around. The guy posted his frustration here and he got similar treatment as you. So don't think you're singled out. There is a pervasive culture of insecurity here. The fanboys cannot stand any negative sentiment on the forum and must feel they have to shut people up or divert attention to Nikon Enemy #1 - Canon.

Thanks you to all the helpful and supportive comments. I dropped the body off at fed-ex, Adorama will have it tomorrow. With any luck I will have the new body in a week
