I spent an evening trying to photograph a barn owl, the owl didn't show up until the sun was behind the hills. On my way back to the car I took some snap shots for fun, and I processed one frame to see what comes up. Not bad given that it was taken in almost darkness, I could barely track the owl in the finder as it was quite dark. Of course this is not going to make a large print or anything like that but for online presentation I find it acceptable.
More impressive is the 1DX AF performance with 600 II+ 2X TC at such low light. The MK4 could never do this. Anyways, not a brilliant shot in poor light but just showing what is now possible. Hopefully I can make some worthy frames some other time...

You must have done some NR here. A fine shot. I've just done some similar stuff with ISO at 25,000. Lots of noise. The AF worked well but fell down with tracking fast moving birds. Certainly far better than I ever could have done before the 1DX. Progress is amazing! Don
Great shot. Is the little bit of blur on the face feathers (and a little towards the feet) due to applying blur/NR to the background and then masking out the bird? I find that a little distracting but it's still a cool capture - it's not that often you get a background that dark when capturing birds in flight, and it really makes the owl pop.
