Does anyone have a 300 f/2.8 VRII in addition to the 200/2? I use my 300 a lot during the winter indoor season. I absolutely love it. It's actually my main lens. I'm wondering how the 200/2 with the 1.4x converter attached compares in terms of focus speed, sharpness, and bokeh. I definitely can't have both lenses, so I'm wondering if selling the 300 for the 200 would be worth it in terms of flexibility for having the bare 200 when I want it in addition to using it with the 1.4x most of the time.
Do it. I went through the exact same struggle when I had a 300 2.8. I loved that lens and honestly, I would say there's no IQ difference between the two. They're both awesome. But what you will find, and what ultimately convinced me to make the swap is the extra versatility you will gain from the shorter focal length and larger aperture. When the light's going down, the 200 @ f2 requires much less ISO and shutter speed than the 300 @ 2.8. You won't regret it if you swap. I don't

That is the same question that I had before ultimately buying the 200.

And this is why I bought the 200. Its a hobby for me, so neither "makes sense", I just had to figure out which made less sense.

I didn't have the 300/2.8 VR2, but had a 300/2.8 AF-S II. I'm not using the 200/2 VR shooting rodeo. I use it approximately half the day with a 1.4 TC and can say without question, I see no difference between my old 300/2.8 AF-S II and 200/2 VR with 1.4 TC. The 200/2 gives me much more flexibility when I need the shorter focal length that the 300/2.8 couldn't give me. I'm kicking around the idea of adding a TC20 now.
The other aspect is that I don't need a monopod now which is liberating.
And then there is that moment when my daughters rescue notices someone n the driveway. The AF is just insane - she was moving fast towards me, shooting a D810 AF-C 9 point, AF-ON.
