I remember when I lived in Cerritos. It was extra painful seeing my package sitting at the Cerritos UPS facility but I wouldn't get the package for another 1-2 days and they wouldn't let me pick it up in person.

Any wedding photographers using this lens in replacement of 70-200mm? I would like to replace my 70-200VRII with a 200VR and pair it up with 58G. Wonder what your thoughts are on this decision? Yay? Nay?
I don't shoot weddings as much as you do, but IMO going with primes will change your game. I rolled with 20 1.8G, 58 1.4G and 200/2 VR and it altered the way I think when getting the shots. Without the crutch of the 70-200 zoom, you are forced to think in advance, which turns up a more deliberate framing.
Oh yea, I'm back... with the Manual Focus version of chub! Will be posting pics soon

Ground can be up to 5 days (left to right coast) unless 2nd Day or 3 Day Select was an option.
When the "day" is at hand...take a shower. My guy ALWAYS drives up then, it's like they know.
Yup, exactly how long it took! 5 days!

What level of delivery did you pay for shipping a lens as expensive and fragile as the 200/2?
2nd Day Delivery UPS is the slowest you should have chosen. The savings in UPS ground results in at least twice the handling, sometimes three times as much. Follow your tracking notices, as you seem to be doing, and you'll see that. Every stop on the way means handling in some fashion. These guys are handling the box with YOUR incredible lens in it, and they handle hundreds of boxes a day. Think about that. Overnight is air, ground is, well, ground for a much higher percentage of the total distance, which means trucks. Trucks hit bumps, trucks vibrate.
Not all shipping damage to a lens is readily apparent, on the box, or in the appearance of the lens, or even, in come cases, from the first images. If it's new, you're up against a deadline for returning it. Why add a mystery variable to your purchase?
An additional 30-60 dollars in cost to ship photography gear worth 3 grand and more is a solid investment. At five grand, shipping at anything less than overnight makes no sense. This is a percentage game: if your package arrives OK, that doesn't mean you made the right decision for shipping.
Thanks for the info Dan! Really helpful. Unfortunately, the seller decided to go that route, I had no control over what carrier he used and what shipment method was used. He informed me that the lens was shipped and provided me with tracking number.

Thanks Joseph, looks like everyone wants to see my photos for some reason... maybe I post way too much good stuff in the 58G forum?

Very much looking forward to seeing the images that this combination produces

Congratulations Elijah! look forward to seeing what you do with it.
Thanks Rob This sucker makes a zippin' whinin' high pitch noise when focusing... and it will not go away. Is this normal...? I've read that some people had issues with this and it would go away after a few uses. Ive been focusing back and fourth for hours and it will not go away!
Hmm? not sure what to say about that? Mine will squeak a couple of times when its cold fresh out the bag, but it goes away within a couple focus actions. Hope its ok?
I have the same squeak, it also only lasts for a short while then goes away. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't, usually after not being used for a while. I went to a local camera store and the owner said that it's not a good thing, could also be pretty expensive to fix. I may bring it to Nikon to have it checked out. Luckily, I work across the street from them.

You're up early?
Yeah mine has been squeaking since yesterday and I've focused a lot since then, just to see if it will go away... it doesn't
Yeah, I was up early!
Any who, here's my first contribution of my humble vehicle
Okay guys, so I just left Nikon and it's not good news for that squeaky sound. They said it was the silent wave motor that's going out, it's at the end of its life. Meaning that you will start to lose your AF. They estimated the repair between $420-600, this is the out of warranty cost to repair. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Elijah, what I have been able to gather by reading forums is that when an AF-S motor squeaks (high pitched squealing sound as it focuses), it MAY BE in the early stage of trouble which means at some point (a few months later or even years later) fail on you. Typical replacement cost of af-s motors run around $400 to $500 depending on the lens.
Again, there is no sure way to tell if or when squeaking af-s motors will fail.
