The weather in the Bay Area was brutal over the weekend..oh yeah, except when we were leaving to go the airport when it was glorious....go figure.
We had a window of about 2 hours on Saturday when it stopped raining and so we headed to Pascadero an area just south of Half Moon Bay. The waves were crazy, the winds were whipping but I did get a little lucky with a nice red shouldered hawk. Unfortunately, I hadn't planned to do any bird photography so with a 5D3 and 70-300 I got as close as I dared. These are pretty big crops but I was happy to get so in flight shots. Hey UT, can I borrow some of your blue skies with clouds?
So as they say, "when they throw you lemons, make lemonade"

Awesome catches of the RSH Eric! Love the display of the fantail. Sorry for the foul weather you had during your visit here out West. HMB (Half Moon Bay) had an explosion of Hawks this past year. I have seen over 20 hawks at one outing in that area. The biggest issue with HMB is that it is covered with fog most of the time, but you get what you get.
I never heard of rain and crappy skies in the Bay area, Eric, although Mark Twain DID have some pithy thoughts on the subject.
Love the biffy shots.

Thanks Khai....there was just enough wind to get it to hover a bit and do that fanning thing. I appreciate you taking responsibility for the weather but I actually think it was Conrad's fault! I am sure I will make it back there before too long...it is so beautiful out there even in bad weather.

Sweet set Eric, especially given the circumstances.

Thanks David...it was one of those bittersweet times when you are happy for the sighting but pissed that the weather and gear aren't measuring up.

Wheew! I was glad this wasn't about you writing your name in the snow
Nice to have some hawks in the viewfinder buddy, gives your camera a 'catnap'
Weather here is not in my favor, mayb time for my indoor floral extravaganza

It is quite a different shooting experience photographing fast moving flying creatures...getting a teeny bit better at getting some quality in flights but still a very long way to go....and am looking forward to some indoor Witty pix!
